Aggelomachy (Ag LO makee)

The War to Begin All Wars

The 'Heavenly War', 'the War to Begin All Wars', the Aggelomachy. It is arguable one of the most defining moments in history, mythology, and religion. Regardless if a scholar is a proponent of it being a historical fact, or a fabricated myth, all agree that the Aggelomachy defines the understanding of ancient Aldern and its influence in the modern day. Every culture, past and present, has lore and traditions built around this event. Entire species and creatures find their origins in the war. Its stories shape the way we perceive the world, the cosmos and our place in it.

Having happened, or thought to have happened, so many millennia ago. With some much lore, some contradicting each other, the reality of the Aggelomachy is hard to truly understand. The following are the events of the war, as best agreed upon by the Jenuwan Order through adventurers scouring ancient ruins, diving into every tome that even hints at its events, as well as copying down countless oral traditions from across the continent of Ethae.

Most would agree the Aggelomachy saw its climax as the world transitioned from the Randeny Period, with the wars end being considered the transition into the Randagri Period. By all accounts the Aggelomachy last for two centuries, which would put the beginning of the war at around 2600 pre-sc by the Siduum Calendar. The Jenuwan records place the 'official' date of the war beginning as 2599 pre-sc. It should be noted this is a guess at best, no concret records survive to give an exact date.

The war begins in Noch. Lead by Tyre, an Aggel, and eight of his closes allies that have set themselves on the Council of Man claim themselves as 'Ilu' (god) and demand worship. Many of the population of Noch embrace this, as they have long saw the aggels as superior beings. Any who do not genuflect are slaughtered. The first killings of history. In response, aggels from 'Beyond Aldern' swarm to Noch to defend the people. Others, some say as much as a third of the aggel, come to join the Nod Noch Nine, creating the Aggoles army. With this war breaks out across creation.

Seeing the Aggelomachy begin gives Irkalla the Red Mother the opportunity she has longed for. She rallies her children, many of which are apparently dragons in the Katiland, convincing them to attack Garden. The Katilan, long dwelling with the Dragon are slaughtered without ever realizing what is happening. While in Enoshut to the east, the dragons dwelling among the people start a bloody civil war between the Enishan, with half the population joining the dragons against their neighbors.

To the south and east, in Jarid, the Nefylmon of Noch fight the Jaraite, while dragons attack them both. The Anon (Magic) is used for the first time for combat. The Jaraite call lightning down to strike their foes, the nefylmon pull water from bodies, the dragons rain fire through the trees. Jarid burns.

The reclusive and mysterious Feyite gather close to Aterleg. To defend Garden, they use their abilities to create food from plants to alter the vegetation instead. Carniverous plants circle Aterleg, and then spread to the borders of Garden to prevent Noch Noch loyalist and Nefylmon from entering. The plants make no distinction between people and animals, none are able to enter Garden near Aterleg. This sparks hostility between the Feyites and all other tribes.

The chaos of the war continues on. Though tradition and myth call it a war of good vs evil, it ultimately has no sides. Every faction attacks its rivals or spends the war defending itself.

Noch has been devistated by the aggels war on the aggoles. Dragon's attack what's left of the civilization. Desperate the surviving Nod Noch on both sides of their civil war begin creating their warriors with magic. Transforming their own people using the essence of crocodiles at first, and then other reptilians, to they create the kursudu (Lizardfolk).

In response to the kursudu threat, and using similar magic, the Jaraite create their own warriors to defend them. Jaraite magic advances the process of creating these warriors, allowing them to transform between their original self and the beast they become. The wolfmen (Werewolf) are created. As the war continues, the Jaraite will create several other beastmen such as the Wererat, but the abundance of wolves in their forest make the wolfmen the predominate force in their army.

Somehow during the war, the Valan of Craddle Valley learn the method of creating warriors from the south. They bring Minotaur into existence as defenders of themselves and Elder Tree Urzan.

The reason Alu held his hand for two centuries of war is not recorded, or does not survive to the modern day, however, He finally steps into the chaos. Alu withdraws all aggel from Aldern. Those loyal to God withdraw on order of the creator. The aggoles refuse and are cast into Kur, which is said to be created by Alu at this time to imprison the rebellious aggels. He then divides Aldern with the realms of 'the Beyond' by the Enur to further limit contact. As a punishment for the daemon he withdraws the natural magic within their DNA, all generations born after will have to earn or learn the ability to use the Anon.

Juva is created by Alu to hold the magic withdrawn from the world. The star enters a binary orbit with Uatu, creating the Celestial Cycle. The introduction of a new gravity source in Alan causes more destruction to Aldern. Volcanos erupt across the globe, sweeping two-thirds of the population from the world. The survivors must start again in this new world.
