River Reitsch
Current Month: Julwar 2nd: 209, The Fifth Age
Though the Western Dales have never been under the control of any Reikonic power, this river nevetheless bears a Reikonic name.
During the many wars fought between the Tremalking Empire and the Hegemony of the Reik, there was various back and forth on the disputed territories; the Empire won some, and the the Hegemony would win it back, and visa versa.
Near the end of the The Third Age, the Empire was beginning to realize that the Scranc were a threat to the civilized world, and parleyed for a truce with the Hegemony, giving into more demands then the Hegemony thought they would.
One such demand was more for insult then necessity, but never the less Tremalking agreed; the Hegemon pulled out a map of imperial territory, and randomly picked a location that he wished to rename to Reitsch, in memory of the Reikish homeland. The place chosen was a major river in the western lands, called the River Pjvolik. Once agreed, the Hegemony spent an enormous sum of many to rewrite newly printed maps to reflect this change. Over time the name stuck, and no map maker has bothered attempting to change the name back since.
The river itself is quite rich in fish and other aquatic life, and recently tribes of Wobbles travel its length. There are some minor villages and hamlets along its banks, but none worth note.
The river begins at the lake of Merna Wurn at the base of the Three Peaks, which acts as the main water supply for the Dwarven Marches of Three Peaks. it collects the various streams and small rivers north of the Silben Mountains before eventually meets with the Fingers, then the River Dorn before it quickly runs off into the Melentine Ocean.
