River Mekla
Current Month: Julwar 2nd: 209, The Fifth Age
The River Mekla was once the lifeblood of the Second Empire, a heavily traveled waterway that runs straight through the heart of the old capital of Meklagard.
Geography
The river begins along the western slopes of the Iron Mountains, the various streams and small rivers collecting in the Unclaimed Hills before merging into the greater Mekla.
The river is significantly shortened from its natural course due to a number of canalisation projects completed in the first century Fourth Age, in order to allow quicker delivery of resources collected upriver. It eventually flows through the city of Meklagard, where it reaches its widest section of over 1,000 feet. It then continues until it spills into the Melentine Ocean.
