Goblins

Þrínic: Goblír /gɔːpliːr/, singular: goblir /gɔːplɪːr/
Öþranic: Gobhlil /ɢɔɓl̥ɪːl/
Mjúltic: Hoblil /hɔɓl̥ɪl̥/
Njóþic: Wepfallak /wɛːp͡falːakh/
Goblins are one of the sapient species inhabiting Borgalor, primarily found in Ójom, a region covering the eastern and southeastern Jælondis and the hinterlands east of the Qug Mountains, and the country of Kröþa in the Southlands, though goblin diasporas can be found throughout the world as well. Along with traditional industries such as fishing, logging and textiles, crystal mining has more recently become an important part of many of their countries' economies to meet the demand for magic crystals to power various machinery.

Appearance and abilities

Goblins are related to Trolls and Orcs, and are by far the smallest of the three, a little taller on average than Dwarves. They are the most gracile of the three, quite agile and surprisingly strong for their built, though like their relatives, goblins have less stamina than humans and elves. Their skin varies from blue to teal to cyan, and common eye colours include grey, purple and pink. The hair ranges ranges from black to silver, sometimes with a slight violet hue.
Like orcs, goblins have sharp teeth and prominent canines growing from their upper jaw, which are clearly visible even with their mouth closed.

Arcane abilities

While goblins don't need as long to recover their arcane reserves as orcs do, they too tend to use spells more sparingly than their neighbours due to tendency to use up their magic rather quickly, though this can me mitigated somewhat with proper training.

History

Early goblins appeared in the Southlands long ago, back when that continent was connected to Örkraz, and eventually split from the population on the former continent as Ökraz separated from it and drifted northwards. Southlandic goblins perished along with orcs there due to competition from trolls and changing environment as the Southlands drifted towards the south pole.
The ökrazic goblin tribes mostly wandered the coastline while orcs initially settled in the hinterlands, but were gradually pushed northwards by the latter beyond the Hnahlam Mountains, where goblins developed cultures heavily based on sailing and fishing both at sea and in the myriad wetlands, lakes and rivers in the region. They were again forced to migrate as the snake-like Ophids appeared, this time leaving Ökraz for good by voyaging across the sea north to Jælondis, where new goblin settlement were initially founded along the southeastern coast and gradually expanded to the eastern coast as well.
Since then, goblin relations to the native human and dwarven population in eastern Jælondis have been mixed, to say the least, tending towards hostility among the lowland (and later eastern highland) dwarves and more favourable with the humans there. The relationship with the latter have been particularly strong since the Fell Wars, as a few goblin countries lent them aid in the form of supplies and armies against the liches.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

Historically, the three most important goblin states were Æþúb, which marks the beginning of their civilization; Onþók, during which goblin territory reached its greatest extent; and Ama, the last great empire in eastern Ójom. The latter two are associated with the goblin classical period, as many of their modern customs and traditions appeared or evolved into their modern form during that time.
Currently, the most powerful countries of the goblins are Biþræ and Terúk in Jælondis and Kröþa in the Southlands.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

All modern goblin tongues are Jælondic Goblinic Languages, a branch of the Pre-Jælondic Goblinic Languages which ultimately derives from the Proto-Goblinic Languages. These developed separately from the orcish and trollish ones, as their common ancestor lacked the cognitive ability to communicate in such way.
