Duchy of Fremilan

History says that the first Duke, Frederick Amarand fought his way past savages and orc tribes, making his way north where he found the Amarantine Tower, which his host occupied and used as their base of operations.
In the following years, Amaranth was built up around the tower and the Duke lead his men to clear out the monsters of the land and make it habitable, his loyal officers each being given a slice of land to govern.

This is how the Duchy came to be and the Amarand family has maintained their rule over Fremilian for almost a thousand years.

Structure

The Duke customarily takes the City of Amaranth and the region of Arlond as their holding.
Beneath the Duke are six Earls who each govern one of the remaining six regions of Fremilan;
Weald, Ennich Basin, Deepwood, Fellen, Fauld and Summer Plains

Within these regions the Earl is encouraged to hand out stewardship of the various towns and castles to minor noble houses as they see fit

Also holding some power within the Duchy, is the Church of the Divine and the Circle of the Silver Owl

Ducats are the official currency, minted in Amaranth out of high quality silver, with smaller denominations known as 'Clips' made of copper.

Legislative Body

The legislative body of the Duchy is made up of the Grand Council with the Duke as head with veto power. The council consists of the Arch-Priest of the Church, the Arch-Mage of the Guild and a variable body of Nobles, commonly drawn from the Earls of the realm.

Judicial Body

The Noble families are expected to enforce the laws of the land within their domain, this is maintained through the principle of The Nobles Obligations.
