Dora Lake

The Dora Lake sits between the towns of Kaiz and Aztaun. Its water is always a brilliant shade of turquoise, making it a popular spot for travellers to visit - even adding a day or 2 to their journey just to view the natural wonder. The banks of the lake are sandy, which makes the lake a popular spot for citizens of both nearby towns to visit during the summer months, and merchants will often set up temporary stores there to capitalise on the increased foot traffic.   Rumours suggest that a Water Dragon lives deep below the surface of the lake, and is the cause for the lake's unusual colour.

Localized Phenomena

The surface water of the Dora Lake gleams with an unnatural turquoise hue. The cause of this unusual colouration has been a topic of debate for some time, with the most common reason alluding to the myth of the Water Dragon that resides below the waves.   Scholars and wizards alike have yet to determine any actual cause, natural or otherwise, for this phenomenon. Below the surface, the water is beautifully clear, with only a slight colouration that you might expect from any body of fresh water.   Without any evidence to suggest what it might be, the common consensus amongst intellectuals is that it is just "another example of the strange natural Magic found in the world", akin to the bizarre summer snow that localised areas have seen, or the occasional talking squirrel.

Tourism

During the summer months, wealthy folk flock to Dora Lake to enjoy the seasonal warmth and mystical waters. Along the sandy banks of the lake, merchants set up stalls to sell food and drinks, as well as commemorative merchandise. For a few years now, the merchants of Kaiz and Aztaun have fought for the best spots along the banks, occasionally disrupting the pleasant memory-makings of the wealthy families who are trying to relax.   During the day, many sun-seekers will spend their time swimming, exploring the local area and shopping. Children will often attempt to find the legendary dragon that is said to reside under the gentle waves, but alas, the creature is yet to be discovered.   During the evenings, travellers will camp under the stars, sharing meals around campfires and watching the starlight twinkle on the lake's turquoise surface.   Many minstrels from Kaiz will come to Dora Lake during these warmer months, singing songs and telling tales with the hopes of earning a few coins, or perhaps even a sponsorship from a noble in the market for a bard.   For obvious reasons, all merchants and tourists will bring hired bodyguards with them for protection. Although bandits and highwaymen are rare in this area, there have been incidents in the past where an opportunistic group have preyed upon the gathered wealthy folk.   In the summer of 1767, it was discovered that the Mayor of Aztaun had installed the first permanent structure at Dora Lake - a simple wooden shack called "Dora Tours". This new business offered coach tours on the local area, with "historians" giving detailed accounts of the history of the lake. Reviews of this new business suggest that some more effort may be required.

The Dora Lake is truly beautiful. The vibrant colours of the water are astonishing, the sand is fine and warm, and the backdrop is an artist's dream... it's just a shame that the lake is often populated by pompous nobles who insist I capture their non-existant "good-sides".
