Rashim
The Great city of Rashim stands as shining jewel in the desert, it is an ancient mark of civilization, and the inner city reflects an age long gone, of grand and imposing structures, reaching for the heavens, grand palaces and statues in the imitation of gods and splendor to rival heaven, while the outer city that has been since the great mage lords took control over the ashes, in contrast shows how far they how fallen, but also the strength and resilience of the Kathara, and their refusal to yield to the cruel desert, stone by stone have they rebuild and now Rashim stands taller than any of the great cities.
Districts
The city of Rashim is divided into a loose collection of districts, which in turn are divided into territories owned by the various mage guilds. The Inner Ray
On the innermost southern banks of the Nitea, the great houses and most influential guild mages hold territory here. The Inner Ray is part of the old city of Rashim from the early days of the Age of Gathering. Consisting of grand beautiful palaces, rich turquoise domes and towers dot it's city scape, grand sweeping oval entrances and many marvellous imitations of the The RadiantThe Outer Ray
The Outer Ray is a strip from the Northern banks of the Nitea towards the the cities northern edges, Much of the old Northern city burned in the fires of the First War of the Sacred Flame. What Remains is however still a small insight in a lost time, Statues of past Radiants dot the district. The Greys
The Greys is a district in the north eastern city, once named for the simple fact that a large amount of Elva'Dra settled there during the early 1600 hundred's, though welcomed somewhat dubiously at first, they have proven a welcome addition by many guilds, especially for their understanding in the ways of the Court of Rashim and their magical prowess. The Greys is a mostly a slum, that has grown around the original settlement of the Elva'Dra, with those original structures standing out as a sore thumb amidst Rashim's Architecture. The Brass Docks
The District on the Northern mouth of the Nitea, where the Great Heart resides, the disctrict is largely for commercial buildings for storing wares and Guild facilities, aswell as a multitude of smaller bazaars aswell as the great Sekaran Bazaar.Three Towers
The Three towers so named for the three great Guild Towers that dominate the city scape of the district, though the towers cannot compared to that of the Inner ray, they are still glorious illustrations of the might the mage lords can muster. The rest of the disctrict does not stand overly out, consting of tightly packed buildings and a multitude of busy craftmen and artisans.Demographics
Races
The cities population is mainly that of humans, though it also has many other races that call it home, mainly elves and the chimera, though some dwarfs and halflings also call the city home.Profession
Most inhabitants of Rashim are workers hired by the various guilds for contruction and public services, though many also ply their trade within the city, as the focal point of trade in Kathlam, the city has attracted many craftmen and traders to call the city home for it's access to resources and easy travel.Government
The city is ruled by the Court of Rashim, they hold a very direct influence over the city, being treated as gods by it's citizens, great statues are errected in the name of the queen and throughout the city the queens of old are immortalized in marble. The court's influence is most felt through the holy church, functioning as the courts reach throughout city, organising public events and festivals to keep the populace happy, and the occasional construct sentry generally ensures the peace.
The lesser families of the court, especially the males are entrusted to handle day to day activities of collecting taxes, tariffs and organizing the city watch. All who wish to trade in the city must be for a permit, and guild fees are also in place, both to ensure income but also to give the court an idea of how many are organized within the city, tradesmen who wish to sail through the river also need to pay for passage.
Due to the sheer size of the city and the influence of some guilds, there are many city districts under the direct supervision and management of some mage guilds, such guilds are given a degree autonomy so long as they obey the court, when called upon.
Defences
The city of Rashim has never had walls, for it has never needed them, at least that's the official line, the issue has often been the ever expanding nature of the city. But the city does like any of the great cities stand well protected.
Though the majority of it's military forces will be called upon levies, it can call upon the Construct legions of the Craftsmen, the mages of the guilds and of course The Radiant Guard.
Industry & Trade
Rashim's most important import are foodwares: barley and wheat, which is used to make bread, cakes and beer; vegetables (beans, lentils, onions, garlic, leeks, lettuces and cucumbers), and fruits (including grapes, figs and dates). and more wealthy farmers have cattle and other lifestock such as camals rearing for the caravans.
Another important export of Rashim is moon stones, though a rare and precious commodity, the distillation and production of them, and harvest from the surrounding plantations and villages.
The city is home to a wealth of artisans, for no where else can they get the resources they need for their craft as easily as in Rashim, in fact it's tradesmen are famous for their craft and expertise, and some might even say rivaling that of the masters of Khorum. But without a doubt Rashims most important "industry" is it's control over the Nitea, traders from all over Kathlam and beyound must go through Rashim to ply their wares, making it a nexus for foreign and exotic wares.
The sheer size of the city and it's easy access to resources means that there is no end to the list of professions one might find, though for the average citizen a stable job is not always an easy feat.
