Lyras

Summary

Lyras.
The Dark One.
The Usurper.
Bringer of Death.
Plaguebringer.

Lyras is know by many names, none of which are spoken lightly.  During her unnaturally long life, she wreaked havoc for more than a century and a half amongst the peoples of Kermoria, and ushered in a realm of terror and fear the likes of which were only rivalled by the Tyrant Teraptus .

Lyras was born into a small family in the Pridelands, and though the specific date of her birth is not recorded (or has been lost to time), historians place her at approximately 180 years old at her death, making her the longest-lived Tabaxi in history.  As a child, she was sickly and weak; but, every time the elders believed she would die, somehow, miraculously, she would pull through.  It was only as she aged into her teenage years did the truth become known; as she grew stronger, elders and sickly members of her Pride would die off.  At first, this wasn't noticed, but, as the number of weak members grew thinner, and healthier more robust tribemates began succumbing to a wasting illness, did the elders begin to piece together the puzzle.  Whether accidentally or through her own will,  Lyras had been draining the life from those around her to fuel her own.

Terrified of the power she wielded, the Tribal Council met in secret during a powerful convergence of the moons and made the decision that Lyras should be slain, for the good of the many.  Obviously, the young girl (who was somewhere around 15-20 years of age) didn't like this idea and, in a fit of rage, lashed out with her powers and destroyed her entire village, killing everyone and everything.

Over the next 30 or so years, Lyras moved village to village, replacing tribal leaders with Tabaxi loyal to herself, or, more often, merely wiping out the tribe and raising their corpses in an ever-growing army of Undead servants, which continued to perpetuate the cycle of destruction until she controlled the entire Pridelands.

Sometime around her fiftieth birthday, Lyras turned her attentions towards the rest of Kermoria, sending her agents forth to continue their work amongst the other peoples; they began blackmailing, threatening, or even outright murdering village and tribal elders, forcing submission from every peoples as Lyras began her march northward, towards Ilithi.

Conquering the majority of Ilithi and the capital city of Shard , she continued her conquests northward until she was met at the great landbridge by forces of the Elven Matriach, Morganae, the Undying Queen .  A massive battle ensued which destroyed the landbridge over the great chasm, causing much of Lyras' army to retreat but splitting the forces of the Elves, with only some of their troops on either side of the now-impassable chasm.   Over the course of the next year, the Elves constructed a giant gondola system between the two sides, ferrying troops and supplies between their forces.  In an attempt to magically ward it, the Queen's own daughter, a powerful mage named Ariendel, along with many of the most learned scholars from the Elven sanctum, formed a massive, protective barrier system around the gondolas.  Lyras, sensing her defeat imminent if she couldn't stop the barrier from forming, reached deep into her magical arsenal and cursed the barrier, ultimately slaying Ariendel and many of the other mages.  The barrier remains in place, though it cost the lives of some of the most powerful arcane scholars in the world.

Lyras continued her conquests northward, unable to fight her way through the The Forest of Night  and take the Elven citadel of Leth Deriel .  Meanwhile, she was plagued by the lizardfolk empire which existed in the Whistling Wood, south of Shard, as they continued to harass and harry her supply lines from the Pridelands and throughout southern Ilithi.  Once again, her deep wells of magic came to the fore, and she issued a curse upon the lizard empire, one that took nearly a hundred years to manifest, but who's effects are still felt to this day.

Lyras continued her reign of terror and destruction for nearly fifty years before finally being slain on a hilltop overlooking those same Whistling Woods, succumbing to an arrow fired from the bow of a half-elf named Lanival, who became known that day as Lanival the Redeemer .
