Legion

The legion is the basic infantry of Sunreach. They are standardized across all of Sunreach so that commanders have a force that they know exactly what they can do and what their equipment is regardless of which vassal or governor raises them. The legion has taken grave losses in the past in the battles against Myzorock, but the recent conquests in the plains of Barathord have been very easy in comparison providing little resistance to the organized soldiers.

Composition

Manpower

The legions of Sunreach are the most numerous force that Sunreach has. Recruits join the legion for the steady pay and rations and don't require the rigorous training of the Adherents of the Dawn or the long days in the forests if they were to join the rangers. The legions of Sunreach are difficult to keep an exact number on due to the fact that the vassals and governors of Sunreach each raise their own soldiers that can be requested by Sunreach to help in whatever tasks are needed.

Equipment

Legionnaires are equipped standard throughout Sunreach regardless of which vassal or governor equips them. They are given armor depending on their ranks, but are all equipped with longswords, javelins, and pilum. All legionnaires are given tower shields and several potions to heal any minor wounds that may happen during battle or construction.

Structure

The legion has a firm structure. At the bottom are the standard Legionnaires such as velites, hastati, principe, and triarii. Of the soldiers each have a different level of power, but all are beneath their commanding centurion. The centurion works beneath the primi ordine of the legion who works underneath their legate, usually the vasasl or governor who raise the force. All legates work underneath the command of the Legate Maximus, currently Jason Volker. The legate Maximus can be commanded by the sentinels, but for the most part the legate maximus is left to accomplish the tasks set forth for him as they sees fit.

Tactics

The legion uses hammer and anvil tactics. The legionnaires are the anvil of the legions, wielding massive tower shields to protect them from harm and hold the enemy in place. The equite are the hammer in the legion, they wheel around the enemy and strike them from the rear trapping them between the two forces. From there the legion either routes the enemy or destroys them if they continue to fight.

Training

Legionnaires are trained thoroughly as a professional force. Legionnaires are put through training to ensure they follow commands and each legionnaire does the same as the soldier next to them creating cohesion. The most important part of the legionnaires training is to remain calm under pressure and keep their shield locked with one another in order to create orderly retreats to reduce casualties should the worst happen. Order is paramount within the legions and that is drilled within them from the very beginning.

Logistics

Auxilia

Leigons are often supplied with a significant number of auxiliary support, often times the auxiliaries equal the number of legionnaires. As of late the legions are almost always supported by canons and riflemen from Lastop. They are used extensively to soften the enemy before being engaged by the legions. They also can be equipped with mages trained at the University of the State of SunReach especially in cases where they are sent into rough terrain. They are often attached with ranger groups to scout the area while in rough terrain such as forests when equite movements are restricted. The Adherents of the Dawn also work with the centuries when large amounts of evil creatures are present or stronger healing is necessary in a particularly bad engagement. Very rarely Halfhelm Proven Warriors will be attached to the legion to help, but there are only a few that have been cleared for combat with the legions. Sometimes NewStoneshore's armory will be brought up especially when fortifications need to be erected quickly.   They intend on getting trained Oliphant Warbeasts from Trailbreak and attaching them to the legions, but Praetorian Jugovich doesn't want them to be equipped for war just yet as he wants them to grow up more before sending them onto the battelfield.
