Salsabil
Salsabil is the star that hangs directly above the sinking city of Palimpsest. According to Brambleson, the Prince of Rabbits and some of the other deities, whenever Salsabil is "reached", it triggers an Apocalypse. The resulting destruction includes the disappearance of stars, the burning of citizens from the inside out, and the cracking and collapse of the city itself.
According to both religious tradition and scientific astrology, Salsabil, as the highest star, is the gateway to the Garden Beyond the Stars. This belief in the Garden predates the current religious hegemony of the Eight. It appears as an afterlife in many older religions, including the Monastic Order of the Garden, and some of the Survivor deities may also have ties to the Garden. Brambleson's Briarpatch borders the Garden's wall, and Worgoth's realm, the Doorstep, is perhaps located at the door to the walled Garden.
Every morning, bright tendrils of light emanate from Salsabil and spread across the sky, illuminating the city below. These tendrils are so bright that the other stars are invisible during the day. As evening approaches, the tendrils fade, revealing the stars and constellations in the Night Sky.
Four times a year, the path of the Wandering Moon crosses in front of Salsabil, obstructing its light and casting Palimpsest into a darkness referred to as the "Cone of Shadow". These extra leapdays, known as Eclipsedays, fall outside the regular calendar months, and it is customary for people to stay indoors during these times unless absolutely necessary.
