Personal history
Goldday, Thiefmoon, 1312
Cassiopeia met with Subvizier(a) Satine Dargent-Laureat in a courtyard garden near the Noble Court, equidistant between the Stargazer and Dargent households. In an attempt to forge a better relationship with House Dargent, Cassiopeia made a gift of three books:
- Fabric of Time: An Archaeological Treaties on the Forgotten Textile Arts - for Satine Darent-Laureat
- A series of mini encyclopedias on the 20 Richest Individuals of History - for Subvizier Victor Dargent
- Signs and Sigils - for Katib Hugo Dargent
Copperday, Thiefmoon, 1312
While Hugo distracted Viziera Andromeda Stargazer and Scrivener Bartleby, Cassiopeia secretly escorted Lindie and Connie through the library and ensured Connie reached Castor Stargazer who was waiting for her in the Observatory. Cassiopeia was able to use the library catalogue to discover four of the eight texts that the Lord Captain Emissary had withdrawn on Scrapday, Tailormoon, 1312 (fulfilling half of one of Whitecape's Star Maps) before they were ambushed by Bartleby. With her scimitar skills, Cassiopeia helped Lindie and Connie take down Bartleby so that he would return to his inkwell, then poured Dust of Forgetting into the well so he wouldn't retain any information about what they had been up to. Later that day, Cassiopeia also helped protect the library when it was attacked by Chime and other rebels of the Patchwork Empire.Education
As a noble child, Cassiopeia received a privileged upbringing under the guidance of her tutors. She was an avid reader and still maintains her little library in her quarters on the Greenskin Estate. She was taught to weild a scimitar by her grandfather, and was secretly educated in the teachings of Termagant, the Iron Sultan(a) by her mother, Vizier Kronk Greenskin.
As Cassiopeia has gotten older, she has become an extremely talented researcher, although her choices in what she researches are not always the safest option. Fortunately, Kronk also devoted a significant amount of time towards teaching Cassiopeia the art of lying convincingly, in the hopes that it would better help her navigate the treacherous politics of the Noble Court.
Employment
Cassiopeia works in the Stargazer Library, under the strict supervision of Andromeda Stargazer. While it offers her the opportunity to conduct the research that she's interested in (both licit and otherwise), she finds it very stressful, particularly since Andromeda can be a mean boss.
Mental Trauma
When Cassiopeia was younger, she developed some unhealthy coping mechanisms, including self-harm. She has mostly gotten better with the help of her husband, and will talk to him or read if she's feeling sad, although she sometimes still struggles. She once made the mistake of mentioning an unorthodox thesis about planar magic to the Stargazers and nobody ever heard from that researcher again, which gives her panic attacks to think about.
She also has semi-frequent nightmares, mostly about her research being discovered. She dreams that the Underhands, or sometimes the Stargazers, come for her, or go after Castor or her mother.
Personality Characteristics
Likes & Dislikes
Dislikes
Spiders: Cassiopeia is very frightened of spiders (much to her embarassment). If she finds one in her room, and Castor isn't around to remove it for her, it is one of the few times she will call a servant.Social
Family Ties
Castor Stargazer: Although their marriage was conducted under unpleasant circumstances, both Castor and Cassiopeia are very sweet to each other. Castor may not feel any romantic attraction towards his wife, and neither are interested in the other sexually, but they are good friends and love each other. They look after each other in what can be a very dangerous court.
Kronk Greenskin:
Father (possibly Joppa): Cassie's father is not in the book, but she believes he was killed when she was two.
