Aria
Appearance
The village is nestled within the protective embrace of the mangrove trees. Elevated wooden platforms and walkways connect the homes together. Their elevation hovers over the flow of the rivers to protect themselves against flash floods. Canopies crafted from mangrove leaves provide shade from the natural elements. Wooden boats are set beside accessible docks for travel. Some communities construct floating establishments on buoyant platforms, adapting to the changing water levels. The town center is often accompanied with wooden musical instruments for the people to play.Demographic
Aria is primarily inhabited by waterbenders and earthbenders. Waterbenders are mainly attuned to the river's rhythm, harmonizing along with the aquatic life. Earthbenders, on the other hand, mold different structures and establishments, listening to the chants of the birds. With the abundance of mud, both waterbenders and earthbenders have quickly adapted their abilities to include mudbending, manipulating either the mud’s water or earth characteristics.Government
The village operates under a council known as the Elders. These Elders are much respected for their wisdom and connection to the forest and are looked upon for guidance. Their leadership is marked by their deep attunement to the natural rhythms of the mangrove forest. Only two Elders may exist at any point, one proficient in waterbending and the other in earthbending. This is to maintain the balance between the harmony of the waters and land. To become an Elder, one must undergo a series of challenges and their appointment is decided by the forest itself.Culture
Path to Natural Harmony
Aria adheres to the Path to Natural Harmony, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all living things through our roots. The mangrove roots remind them of his balance, with the roots connected to both the solid earth and the flowing waters. Their melodies guide the people toward fulfillment, offering them strength and resiliency.Enlightenment through Nature's Songs
Villagers believe that nature's songs hold the key to enlightenment. Listening to the harmonies guides them in navigating the intricate waterways and helps them interpret the forest's messages. The songs even act as a navigational guide, helping the villagers avoid treacherous areas and find safe passages. This unique form of navigation has become an art passed down through generations. Some say that the mangrove forest, with its natural songs and labyrinthine roots, acts as a protective barrier against larger predators. Elders often teach the young to attune their senses to the subtle nuances of the melodies.Mangrove Root Instruments
In celebration of their connection to the forest, villagers craft musical instruments from mangrove roots. These instruments are used during festivals and rituals, enhancing the village’s connection to the roots, and creating a symphony in the village. The music serves as both a form of expression and a means of strengthening their spiritual connection.Interpretation of Paradise
The village's interpretation of Paradise is deeply intertwined with their spiritual connection to the world. To them, Paradise is not a tangible location but a state of harmonious existence within the natural world. It is when one is able to unlock the embodiment of a perfect balance between water and earth. Attaining Paradise means becoming part of this world’s eternal melody and thus also means being able to alter its melody.
