Geography
Located beneath the mountain range, Echostone Maw is a hidden sanctuary beneath the earth's surface. It contains
vast rocky caverns and winding tunnels, so vast that small communities formed below.
Underground lakes and rivers provide water for its small ecosystem. The entrance is covered by natural rock formations, providing both protection and concealment to the communities dwelling within. Being underground, the location is naturally dark and is essentially an echo chamber.
Climate
The climate inside the caverns is consistent, with a
stable temperature that hovers around a comfortable range. The absence of direct sunlight prevents extreme temperature fluctuations, thus creating a hospitable environment for the underground communities. While not as humid as the land above, the underground has
moderate humidity levels due to the water seeping through the mountain rock, pockets of dampness that sustain the unique ecosystem.
Ecosystem
Its ecosystem has adapted to the absence of sunlight.
Bioluminescent fungi and moss cast a glow across the cavern walls, providing a soft illumination. They have adapted to make use of the mineral-rich underground environment. Underground rivers and lakes sustain a variety of
blind fish and amphibious creatures.
Small rodent-like creatures with heightened senses scurry through the tunnels, sensing vibrations.
