OttL Session 5: Bonds, Bonds, Bonds
General Summary
The session begins aboard Barry the Airship, immediately after the party's departure from Polaris. No additional intruders are located, however, and so shifts are chosen and they sleep in watches.
Memento Vitae takes first watch, which is uneventful.
Thaiva Phenol takes second watch, which is also uneventful.
During travel the next day, the ship is thoroughly investigated. Thaiva Phenol discovers feathers in the engine room, and others discover a scrying rune underneath the table in the galley. The party sleeps again upon arrival to Lucileastil, taking shifts once more.
Natsu successfully sneaks past Memento Vitae during his watch, and departs the airship undetected.
Bosgosho has the second watch, in which he kills a rat in the galley.
Thaiva Phenol has third watch, in which she spots two rats but makes no attempts to catch either.
In the morning, Izar departs to deliver some goods to a company warehouse. Hobbs, Thaiva Phenol, Bosgosho, Memento Vitae, and Ignacio Icarsus depart with two magic carpets heavily loaded with luxury goods. Despite covering the merchandise, the party garners significant attention on their way to the client Fresh Start Soul Traders. Hobbs specifically notices that most of the gawking is directed at Thaiva Phenol.
Upon arrival, a tielfling directs them to a service entrance located in an adjacent alleyway. The tielfling then goes to get his boss, and shortly thereafter the party is greeted by Dreamonskii, a large purple-skinned incubus in a fancy suit, two top hats (one worn by his tail) and a large skull on his head.
The party speaks to Dreamonskii for over an hour, which proves to be a rather exasperating experience. The man speaks quickly, in a somewhat roundabout fashion, and embeds sexual innuendo with varying degrees of subtlety into nearly every sentence. He also attempted, on multiple occasions, to get various party members to sell him their souls. He has quite a bit to say about every member of the party, but most of his attention is directed at Hobbs, who he claims was a former lover. Topics discussed included, but were not limited to:
Hobbs/Dreamonskii
- Hobbs and Dreamonskii were lovers.
- Dreamonskii regularly refers to Hobbs as "D".
- Hobbs has, supposedly, lost his memory on multiple occasions. Hobbs was already an amnesiac the first time they met.
- The two know each other as sailors. They served together on two separate ships.
- The Sedna, a vessel on the Prime Material Plane, carried 80 people. The vessel sank, for undisclosed reasons, and Amadeus, Dreamonskii, and Hobbs were the only survivors.
- The bodies the trio could recover were taken to Polaris and buried at the The church of Olidammara. They have a standing agreement to visit the memorial every year on Jan. 30th.
- Some time after the Sedna incident, Hobbs died. Details of this event were not provided.
- Dreamonskii, overcome with grief over his crew, fell into drinking and died of alcohol poisoning sometime after Hobbs himself had died.
- Dreamonskii and Hobbs met up again in the Astral Sea, where Hobbs was serving as a "tour guide" for Olidammara.
- They served together in the astral sea for around a year aboard the El Pollo Diablo. It was during this time that the two became lovers.
- Fun stories were told of a crewmember aboard this ship named Charlie, who once caught the two behaving suspiciously on the deck with Dreamonskii tied to the mast. Charlie also had a habit of stealing left shoes.
- Hobbs personally helped Dreamonskii go sober, and got him a high-ranking position working for Penguin in Avernus.
- Dreamonskii suggested Hobbs join him to visit the memorial at The church of Olidammara. Hobbs not only agreed to this but invited Dreamonskii to travel there with the crew aboard Barry the Airship.
- Dreamonskii also tried to get Hobbs to sell him his soul, so that he could be under his protection. He claims that if Hobbs were his "property" then any attempt to steal his memories again could be considered an act of war against The nine hells. This offer was neither accepted nor rejected.
- Dreamonskii also asked every male party member if they had hit on (or attempted to sleep with) Hobbs. He also asked Hobbs if he had a thing for Izar.
- Dreamonskii gave Hobbs an alchemy jug; a mug capable of magically producing booze.
- Despite the collar, Thaiva Phenol is definitely not a slave.
- Dreamonskii knew about the bounty, and in fact Fresh Start Soul Traders maintains one of the bounty boards in Lucileastil
- Thaiva Phenol obtained a copy of her bounty. Just as Lenora said earlier, it is in the amount of 600gp, issued by her parents, for live capture. She is to be unharmed. No justification is provided.
- With some convincing, Dreamonskii begrudgingly agreed to take down the bounty from their notice board as a favor to Hobbs.
- Dreamonskii does say, however, that he would put it back up if Tornac demanded it. Exactly who tornac is was not explained, but Dreamonskii clearly fears him.
- Dreamonskii recognized Vitae's family name of Memento. While trying to figure out why he knew, he asked Memento Vitae how old he was.
- With some persistent questioning from Memento Vitae, Dreamonskii reluctantly admitted that might, technically, be Vitae's father. This information is not confirmed.
- Dreamonskii assumed Ignacio Icarsus was a slave from the moment he started talking.
- Dreamonskii was skeptical when told that Ignacio was, in fact, a free man. As a matter of fact, he burst out laughing.
- At one point, when Hobbs briefly convinced Dreamonskii that Ignacio Icarsus had something to do with his amnesia, Dreamonskii picked Ignacio Icarsus up by the throat and threatened to strangle him. This was ended quickly by a pair of excellent persuasion rolls.
- Ignacio's triangle appears to have anchored his soul to his body in some fashion. This prevents him from dying, but also prevents him from selling his soul.
- Dreamonskii is convinced the triangle is a suppression device of some sort. When he realizes Ignacio Icarsus likes his triangle, he compares it to the time he watched several slaves beat each other to death in a fight to see who could wear the best collar.
- Dreamonskii has no idea who created the triangle, but would very much like to meet them. He is clearly intent on obtaining such technology himself.
- Bosgosho worships The Dagda, who has in turn hired Penguin to do "marketing" in order to help spread the new faith
- as a result of this agreement, Dreamonskii had an indirect obligation to provide Bosgosho with some degree of assistance. He provided him with a pair of magical red dancing shoes.
