Eyes of Varpak †
Some can never forget. Some can never forgive. Some will be beholden to a long forgotten god and desire vengeance, manipulating those around them to gain what they unjustly desire to be theirs. The Eyes of Varpak is the name of a Frost Giant sorceress who lived in a mysterious cave in the Vodengold Glen. Devoted to Varpak, the creator of trolls and poison, The Eyes tempted The Snow Lord† into becoming Varpak’s champion with the goal of re-establishing a giant empire and giving the Snow Lord the lost power of Varpak.
Cold hearted both literally and figuratively, The Eyes of Varpak had access to warlock abilities, ice magics, and the ability to magically interferer with heroic abilities, using this to famously cancel Azura's diviniation manipulation. She was also capable of spreading curses, using her powers to poison the heirs of every Jotun noble to force them into invading Jamel and Valeska. The Eyes committed suicide at the Battle of Jastingrag when the Snow Lord was defeated by Doomed 2 Die.
Varpak
In the second age, three powerful giant warriors made a pact with a then mysterious and illusive god. Varpak was known to the Jotun for the creation of Aedrinarian trolls, but these three warlords so an opportunity for power. The Three, then called the everlasting ones, had subjugated a number of village on the eastern coast of Jotun, including the human dominated Jotunbrygge. Taking food and thralls they made a mighty sacrifice, declaring and unholy pact with Varpak and becoming a chimeric amalgamation of all three of them, known as an Everlasting One. In this state, the creature gained new supernatural powers and abilities, including the five gifts of Varpak. His strength, his spirit, his leadership, his creativity, and his madness. These manifested in at will magics, increased strength, and other benefits. The Everlastling One’s reign of terror would be shortlived, as they would be slain by the legendary heroes Jamel and Valeska, who arrived in Jotun seeking their rights of adulthood. The beast was destroyed by them and their castle reduced to rubble. Unknown to the heroes, the essence of Varpak would not escape, and hide within their souls. Passing down their bloodline for generations to come. The Snow Lord
Enter the Eyes. She had spent centuries in hiding, taking shelter in a rugged cave within the glen outside Jastingrag. She had spent her time communing with what remained of her god, learning the fate of his gift and how it was stolen from the Jotun. By chance, The Snow Lord would stumble upon the witch whilst hunting, and she saw an opportunity. Using her charms, she slowly converted the giant noble, declaring him the champion of Varpak and beginning her plan to retake what was lost. The Eyes learnt the names of the five human descendants who held the gifts of Varpak, Lady Eris Snowflower, Prince Haakon, Reeve Mester, Heli Ristor, and Falia Rayes. Their plan began the Frost King was weak, using their allies and resources to oust the Jameleskans and begin a new empire. The Eyes stayed hidden at first, and convinced her champion to send his wife to Astergor and helped plan his strategy on capturing their targets. She only appeared in true at Storonthorpe, using her powers to stop Azrua’s attempted manipulation of divination to save Jiarn. She used her magic to save the Snow Lord at the feast that night when Gallus and Ivar nearly felled him. With their empire collapsing, the Eyes launched a devious plan. Using her connection to Varpak, she spread a magical poison to the heirs of the noble houses of Jotun, promising to release the cure if they attacked Jameleska. This backfired as it forced Jameleska and Doomed 2 die to storm Jastingrag, resulting in both hers and the Snow Lord’s death.
