Era of Axe, Furnace, and Coal
The Era of Axe, Furnace and Coal is what the time of economic growth and prosperity following the hardships of the Years of Hunger and Cold is called.
This era is commonly defined as lasting from the year 188 to 282 including the 24th to 37th Legislature Period and saw an increase in industrial development not seen before in the history of the Great Cavern of Aman-ya.
The technological developments that had brought the city out of the dark years of the Era of Hunger and Cold were improved more and more leading to a productivity increase that past ages could only have dreamed of.
Styx truly completed its transformation from an agricultural society to an industrial one and the Union of Manufactury Workers for the first time became the strongest power within the Temple Parliament.
Uncounted amounts of manufacturies were erected in various districts of the city and the exports that the recently stabilized foreign relations with Styx' neighbors allowed for reached new peaks with every coming season.
Among the breakthroughs of this era in the magickal and mundane sciences were the invention of new, more productive Steam Power engines as well as the conceptualization and practical testing of the use of elemental magick to cool such engines further increasing productivity.
Another marvel of this time was the discovery of Stygian Fire and that it could be used to burn Leshivoi Forest wood enabling the city's impressive industrial Sektori to run with far less fuel than previously needed.
For this reason large swaths of the Leshivoi Forest were cut down.
Though there had not been a coordinated attack by the Tribes of the Woods the people of Styx remained fearful and for good reason; wild animals, dark spirits and things more sinister evil brought great danger and the Union of Leshivoiwards and Woodwalkers gained prominence as brave rangers were needed to defend the woodcutters.
Another prominent technological improvement brought about by the need for better weaponry were Percussion Cap Firearms, a great reworking of the previous Flintlock Firearms that had been in use since the early Republican era.
This also served to make the Armed Forces of the Stygian Republic by far the most advanced military force within the Great Cavern of Aman-ya.
Aside from all the improvements and technological marvels this time also brought new dangers to the lives of the people of the City of Styx.
As manufacturies sprang up overnight the Three Serpent Rivers became rapidly polluted leading to widespread illness among those who depend on it for drinking water and food in the form of fish as well as other livestock drinking from the tainted water.
Blightlung which had long been a seasonal illness in Styx became a much more prominent issue with the smoke of the manufacturies choking the urban air and the Parvian Saints have been in constant need of medical professionals and goods ever since.
The end of the 27th Legislature Period is most often considered to be the end of the first industrial era of Styx with the time after this being called the Era of Steel and Brickwork.
