Lake Gios

Lake Gios is a giant mountain lake located in the southeast part of the South Estisia, upward the northeast of the Gate Lowland. The name comes from the deity of an unknown religion of the local people around the lake in its early history. It is considered the largest lake in the region, so large and so deep that people might not be wrong in referring to it as a sea.

Geography

Formed by rain forming all over the mountainside filling up the valley, the lake is almost entirely barricaded by a single ridge - except for one gap where the lake leaks out to the outside world, forming the Giosen River.

The area around the mountain from uphill down is full of deciduous trees. Closer to the shore, however, is full of grass and shrubs and the actual shore is made of white gravel. A natural line several meters upward of the lake level split the brimming forest from the dry shrubland, showing that the lake used to be larger.

Unrecognizable stone ruins can be seen so sparsely along the shore, showing that there was a civilization before the dam drown it entirely. Was it ruined by a natural disaster, or a response to opposing against the ancient superpower? No one could really tell.

The Great Dam of Lake Gios

At the lake's outlet there was the big, Krin dam. Constructed in 747 BVE by the Empire of Kritus, it increased much of the lake water to supply the population and prevent floods. Near the dam is the small town of Gigia, found during its construction.

Breached in 3 BVE as a result of the Battle of Lake Gios, the entirely of the dam is now covered in mosses and shrubs, though the dam still holds its shape, emphasizing the Krin aesthetic. On one side the giant tree digs its root, casting a shadow on the breached hole which is now a wide, strong waterfall.

Ecosystem

The lake has a mediterranean climate, with a mild-warm in the summer and dry-wet in the winter. Prior to the dam being constructed, it used to cause a lot of floods downhill during fall, leading to an aggrasive Gioson river.

Fauna & Flora

Peaceful and brimming with life, various crops being gathered, cultivated, and consumed by people since prehistoric times, all came from here - not including the crystal clear freshwater.

The most well-known plant from Lake Gios is millets, the dairy grains consumed by many southern civilizations.
