Goliaths are massive. They average between 7 and 8 feet tall (2.1 to 2.4 meters), making them even taller than dragonborn and half-orcs. Goliaths have noticeably bony or prominent supraorbital ridges above their eyes. Goliath eyes are often a bright blue or green and sometimes glowed a little. Goliath skin is often gray or brown and is extremely tough (often compared to stone). One of the most distinctive features of the goliath is the darker (often vertically symmetrical) patches of skin that cover their entire bodies. Goliaths believe that these markings somehow explained or controlled their fate or destiny. For this reason, goliaths never tattoo themselves as this could affect their future. Goliath skin is littered with bony growths called "lithoderms". These growths are roughly the size of a coin and appear like studded pebbles on their arms, shoulders, torso or head.
Their origins are clouded in mystery. Many theorize that they were once humans, who lived on
Venland during the
Second Age, Godswar. They were so far from the war, that they were untouched by most divine beings. One tribe said that their origins start with the
Jotunnheim, especially with the god
Skoraeus, who sought nothing more than to left alone and they came to worship him, however, since they were mere humans, he didn't answer them. Over time, their tenacity warmed his stone heart and he gifted them some of his powers, turning them into the Goliaths. Another tribe was noted that their origins started in the
Nordryggen Mountains, where the tribes found an ideal valley around, what was described to be a
Foundation Pillar, some even living inside it. When the Second Age ended, the pillars were strengthened by the gods but overlooked the population living there. The energizes Foundation Pillar touched their souls and bodies, turning them into the Goliaths. There is no singular explanation for the race, some even speculate that they are half-giants, offspring of rape but those that say this next to a Goliath might have their head caved in for such an insult. Most of them worship their ancestors, others seek the
Jotunnheim pantheon and there are tribes that have a liking for conflict, thus found themselves in services to the gods of war like
Ilios or
Crommash.
On Tethys
Goliaths do not have a nation as they see the idea of such a big civilization as pointless, an experiment of overmanaging their lands. They have tribes, sometimes towns but never a singular nation, they see no need for it. There are dozens of Goliath clans, many in the
Warrior-clans of Venland. They tend to become adventurers, seeking glory and combat, or mercenaries but rarely employ themselves on swimming or flying vessels, preferring to be on the ground.
First World
There were Goliaths in the
First World, they were part of experiments made by the father of giants between their blood and humans. However, he found out that they weren't too keen on being loyal soldiers in his war, thus he disgarded them. They formed similar tribes, living high in the mountains.
