Five members of the Heroes' Guild are considered ready for their trial and are lead down to a series of dungeons where they must test their skills to succeed.
The Champions arrive at the village of Dargan where the they investigate the case of the missing children. They soon find out that the death of an old man and a mysterious visitor may be involved. Eventually the leads take them to a cabin in the woods where they find a stone stairwell leading down into darkness.
The group finds themselves in some sort of alternate dimension, covered in a mysterious fog and darkness.
The Heroes are accused of the murder of the priest of Dargan. Count Meiry II wants to hear them out, but an old wizard testifies against them. They are found guilty of the murder after a short and unfair trial and arrested. They resist and fight their way out. Outside Meiry II tells them he can not hold them here and that they are free to leave to avoid further damage to his town and its people. The Heroes return to the Guild.
On their way back to the Heroes Guild the heroes hear a scream from the woods. They decide to investigate and head into the forest. The further they explore the darker and foggier their surroundings het. Eventually they come across a giant beast, mimicking the sound of a girl in distress. They are attacked and quickly ambushes by an evil spirit, capable of knocking out most of the party with their wail. Eventually the heroes defeat both monsters and leave the forest.
When the heroes arrive back at the guild they are welcomed by Charn who asks them how their first official mission went. The heroes are honest about what happened and Charn, surprised by what happened. leads them to the Headmaster Fenwyn. There they explain what happened in more detail. Fenwyn is mostly concerned, but Charn is outraged by what happened. After questioning the heroes about what happened for a while Fenwyn tells them to get some rest. Brakathar checks up on Charn and they engage in a practice match. Charn does not hold back and with a handful of strong blows strikes defeats Brakathar. Ub seeks out Kaelin to ask her about necromancy and how it is viewed in the world. Kaelin reminds him that they have gone over this before, and asks is there is anything Ub would like to tell her, but Ub keeps his business to himself. The next day the Heroes wake up to some upheaval outside. At the doorstep are 6 knights and 12 knights demanding that the Heroes' Guild hand over the Murderers of Dargan.
Outside Charn is verbally abusing the knights while members of the guild are enjoying the spectacle. Kaelin spots the group and tells them to keep out of side. Alleria and Mordrack decide to inform Fenwyn and ask him to come down. In the Headmaster's office they see him discussing something with Darostan. He asks for a little more time to finish up their conversation and a few minutes later he arrives at the scene at the entrance. Kaelin tells the group to retreat to their chambers and wait until they are called for again, but Alleria decided to linger for a bit and listens to what's happening outside. Fenwyn spends the first couple of minutes calming Charn, before finally addressing the knights and their men, hoping to come to an agreement. By the end of the day Fenwyn gets the knights agree to let the heroes stand trial in Twyrif. He asks the group if they agree and if they will accept the consequences. Everyone agrees, but Mordrack says he will only accept if there is no foul play. If that is the case he will not face punishment, but promises that, if it comes to that he promises to break with the guild to not harm its reputation. Darostan is send to Dargan to investigate and find any leads. The next day the heroes are called to Fenwyn's office and together with Kaelin they discuss everything that happened in Dargan. Kaelin confirms that there is reason to believe there are different dimensions or planes of existence. When the heroes mention that they found a list with Darostan's name on it Fenwyn seems uneasy. When stye finish up their conversation Mordrack asks about it and Fenwyn reveals that Darostan has also been in the shadow dimension before he came to the guild. Until now he had hoped it was an unrelated incident. Mordrack fears it may have been a mistake to send Darostan to Dargan on his own, and together with Brakathar goes after him to make sure he doesn't bail. Later that day they find Darostan on his way back to the guild. He tells the heroes that he hasn't found any information. By nightfall they arrive back at the guild.
After a short brief with Fenwyn everyone decided to go to bed. Around midnight someone came visiting Ub's bedroom. After opening the door Ub stood face to face with Alfred Grayskin, a fellow guild member. Alfred expressed appreciation for Ub and asked if Ub would train him in necromancy. Ub quickly sent him off with empty promises. The next day the group joined the guild masters and together they left for Twyrif. After a short journey they arrived at the city and were lead to the Hall of Justice. Fenwyn told them what the trial would look like and made sure the heroes were prepared for what was to come. The trial itself went flawlessly. Fenwyn, Kaelin, Charn and Darostan all managed to impressed the Council of Twyrif and finally the Heroes all made very convincing arguments. Only Alleria failed to make a compelling argument, but overal it didn't hinder the group. As a formality the council retreated to discuss their verdict and the Meiry II was angered by their decision and left Twyrif in a rage. In the evening Alleria and Ub went for a stroll around the city. Mordrack and Brakathar headed for the tavern where they joined Charn and Darostan and drank until the late hours. Fenwyn and Kaelin left around midnight and told to group to relax for a bit.
The Champions were summoned by the leader of the Merchants' Guild, Symber Ergold, who asked them to investigate a gambling house in the Slums. However, Alleria and Brakathar decided not to involve themselves in the city's politics and left. Meanwhile, Mordrack and Ub encountered members of the Whisper Guild in the Slums. The Whisperers, having observed the Champions during the trial, offered them a job as bouncers in their organization. Mordrack and Ub, suspicious of their intentions, declined the offer. After some persuasion from Jared, the Whisper Guild's leader, they were allowed to leave, with the reminder that it's better to be friends than foes with the Whisperers.
The Champions, accompanied by Masters Kaelin and Darostan, embarked on a two-week journey to the Feylin Forest after receiving leads on Svarog the Soulless. Along the way, they met Padrig, a guide with a peculiar interest in faeries, who led them through a checkered path in the forest. Suddenly, they found themselves in a clearing where they had apparently set up camp without any recollection. As they followed their own tracks, the paths diverged, causing further bewilderment and uncertainty.
After entering the fog-filled ruins of the castle, the Champions followed hissing noises, leading them deeper inside. They encountered a monstrous snake-like creature with a human face, warning them to leave, but they defeated it. However, they soon realized they were not alone, as more hissing and chanting voices emerged from the fog. Trapped by the surrounding cliffs and depths, they reluctantly investigated further. Finally, they discovered a loose slab on the floor, revealing a hidden stairwell leading downward.
Following the stairwell, the Champions descended beneath the surface into a vast cave system adorned with stalactites and stalagmites. Intrigued by the sound of running water, they ventured deeper into the caverns in search of its source.
While exploring the underground caves, the Champions stumbled upon a stream teeming with peculiar squid-like fish. Ub, curious, touched the water and received a vision of massive creatures relentlessly assaulting a barrier. Disturbed, he attacked and killed one of the fish, only to hear a voice scolding him. Continuing their exploration, they faced a floating creature resembling the fish, engaging in a perilous battle. They triumphed but faced another discovery: a grand facade with tall doors. Brakathar's expertise allowed them to open the doors, revealing a stairwell leading deeper underground.
Descending the seemingly endless stairs, the Champions reached a stone door adorned with tentacles. Choosing caution, they decided to backtrack, but returning proved futile as Ub couldn't reach the castle. Forced to continue, they entered the abandoned castle's entrance hall, discovering undead creatures hungry for flesh. The Champions fought through the monsters, searching for keys and unlocking new areas. Alleria's ill-fated attempt to clear a goo-covered wall revealed a portal to a terrifying creature. Further exploration led them to a dining hall infested with tentacles, where Brakathar's defiance cost him his life as the tentacles devoured his mind and soul.
Distraught over Brakathar's death, the Champions encountered Rakarashkar, who sought revenge for a stolen horn. They teamed up and defeated stone golems, then encountered Mea, an amnesiac wood-elf. Together, they reached the throne room, where they outwitted the demented king for a final key. Beyond the last door, they expected an exit but found themselves on a castle roof overlooking a shadow-filled landscape. Svarog the Soulless revealed his plot to restore the Great Old Ones. A battle ensued, resulting in Ub's death. Driven by vengeance, the Champions defeated Svarog. They suddenly returned to the Feylin Forest, unaware of a lurking tentacle.
The Champions were introduced to a new member, Janek, and Mea and Rakarashkar were invited to join the Guild temporarily. They were ordered to rest at the Guild, but Charn was still at war, Darostan kept his distance, and Kaelin offered limited guidance. Headmaster Fenwyn left to find the Magrave. Learning about missing persons in Twyrif, the Champions disobeyed orders, creating a distraction to leave the Guild and head to the city.
The Champions arrived in Twyrif and visited an antiquarian and blacksmith, but both were uncooperative. They realized people were hesitant to share information. They headed to the Merchants' Guild and, after bypassing security, questioned the Guild Master. He provided vague answers and directed them to the Barrack of the Golden Bascinet. There they met Fredric Fyld, who reluctantly shared details and warned them to stay out of trouble.
The group spent the night at a tavern before investigating the crime scenes in the Slums. At the first scene, they discovered evidence of illegal activities. They confronted a suspicious man who witnessed a suspicious event. The second scene led them to believe the Whisper Guild was involved. They went to a tavern to contact the Whisperers, but a bar fight broke out. Meanwhile, a red dragonborn and a Witch-hunter arrived.
A tavern brawl erupted, initiated by Janek, leading to chaos and Janek's ejection. Mordrack recognized a dragonborn and witch hunter, triggering suspicion. The figures left, advising the party to stay out of their business. Mordrack tracked them to an alley, where they met a hooded man. The party investigated and encountered Gared from the Whisper Guild, who offered gold for silence. Mea attempted to tackle Gared but failed, resulting in a dangerous confrontation.
After Mea's failed attack, Jared and his men launched a fierce assault on the party. The fight was challenging, but the group prevailed, except for Jared, who escaped using magic. They searched the bodies, confirming their affiliation with the Whisper Guild. As armored figures approached, the group scattered to avoid being discovered. Mea witnessed Captain Fedryc Fyld and others arriving at the scene, and later overheard a suspicious conversation between Fedryc and the Grandmaster of the Merchants' Guild. The party reconvened at the tavern, realizing they couldn't trust anyone.
Mea, Rakarashkar, and Janek observed heavy Golden Bascinet presence around the tavern and devised a plan to escape. They created a distraction with a bar fight, then fled through the courtyard. Mordrack and Alleria faced increased guards in the Slums but managed to reach the tavern. Mea and Rakarashkar used magic to escape unnoticed, while Mordrack and Alleria decided to fly toward the East Gate. Alleria was spotted and chased, eventually crashing and surrounded by guards.
