Blyperrin

Granted a city charter in 501 AF, duringĀ the Foundation Age, Blyperrin is best known to history as the capital of the Empire of the Low Armies during the age of the Succession Empires   The Low Armies acquired their name in a very simple fashion. Blyperrin is built on two steep hills, crowned by the Lord Protector's palace and the High Church of the Faithful. Both of these important buildings were flanked by small baracks, manned by forces which became known as the High Armies, simply because they occuped the literal high ground. The High Armies were an elite protection force and acted as bodyguards for the city rulers but they were tiny in number and the name of "army" was used for them, half in honour and half in mockery in the poorer quarters. As the city developed military aspirations at the beginning of the eighth century, it began to fund a more sizable force of soldiers who were quartered below the hills and were known first as the Low Army to make a simple distinction from the High Armies and then later as the Low Armies when the Empire expanded and included forces based in allied cities, such as Monrith.   The city reached the height of its powers at the beginning of the eighteenth century when it was goverened by its most famous Lord Protector, Edward Lawrence, who oversaw the conquest of Freewater in 1705 AF and the capitulation of Aberstone in 1725 AF. At this time, the Empire of the House of Thorns was also rising in the east at Kingcardine and the two empires would vie for dominance as the age of the Succession Empires unfolded.   The painting at the head of the article shows the Low Armies marshalled outside Blyperrin prior to marching on their successful campaign against Freewater in 1705 AF. It was painted by the renowned artist Talbot Devon and is entitled "The Lord Protector's Muster : 1705 AF". Although somewhat damaged by age and then water when it was nearly lost in a fire in 2411 AF, it still hangs in the museum at Blyperrin which was once the Lord Protector's Palace.

Districts

The Haltorath district of Blyperrin was the location where agricultural products were traded and where grain from the rich farmlands to the east of the city was stored and processed. This district was badly hit by the effects of the listlessness plague in the later 27th century and in this image we see how much of it fell into ruin at that time.
