A home page to provide an index of articles created for the October 2024 challenge, Spooktober.
All of the articles shown here can also be found within the site under appropriate local content categories or articles, but this is a simple place for me to track my progress against the challenge and see them all together. I don't expect to have time to create an article for all of the prompts listed below, given that I am also working hard on a long story called the Diary of Clarise Vabatan, but I couldn't let this challenge pass me by without making an effort to create some different unrelated content, particularly as the next age I intend to document within the Magicians' End timeline is called the Age of Shadows and will be characterised by many haunting and horrifying creatures emerging from the Dark Domains to break into the formerly well protected human continents. I wasn't originally planning to make this content quite yet (until the Diary of Clarise Vabatan was complete) but the alignment of the competition and the requirements for the Age of Shadows I know will follow, are too good of an opportunity to let slip...
I don't want Magicians' End to have all the fun, though. This is also a chance for me to enrich other realms of the Discontinuum, so not everything will belong to the Age of Shadows.

1. Breath		Whisperwraiths reside within the archetype known as the Gravehollow but can be summoned into a number of vulnerable evolutions, or permitted to travel there by malign Powers, with terrible consequences for their breathless victims.
2. Depths
3. Lair		The Lair of the Snow Angel in the far frozen northlands of Idalka is sometimes called the Lost Retreat, a name that has in turn become the name of the entire discontinuum realm known as the Lost Retreat.
4. Teeth		From the peaceful realm of Earth Rustic comes the legend of Rabbit Man. Is he a man? Is he a rabbit? Yes. But don't call him a bunny rabbit.

8. Ancient		The Marsh Harrow is an ancient creature on the edge of myth and legend, reputed to dwell in the Unclaimed Marches in the realm of The Lost Retreat. It is a gargantuan monster and a nod towards the Kaiju theme in this year's competition.
9. Horned		Dendros is the chief servant of the spirit of the forest, Talfamtha in the realm of Earth Rustic.
10. Mutated		Noctipedes were a horrifying pest, unleashed by the Dark Domains onto Magicians' End in the Age of Shadows.
11. Aberration		Shadow Suckers were a particularly frightening supernatural infestation on Magicians' End that escaped from the Dark Domains in the fifth millenium APC and gave their name to the Age of Shadows.

14. Space		The Fellstronaut is a horrifying apparation seen in the deep vacuum of space before a disaster. It is categorised as a minor Power by the Stability Council because it is known to appear within multiple realms of the Discontinuum yet it does not apparently originate in any of the ones known so far.
15. Predator		The tale of Elowen and the Spineback belongs to the realm of the Lost Retreat and is a fragment of some longer story, yet to be imagined...
16. Deafening		The Voice of the World is a great wall of noise produced as a sink where sound captured in the Silent Kingdoms is finally released on the opposite side of the world. An ancient arcane weapon from a time long forgotten, produced this seemingly permanent effect on the realm of the Lost Retreat.
17. Grotesque		Rewitt is a malign and grotesque Fey who dwells within the Gravehollow and plots the destruction of the Fey Court.

19. Otherworldly		The Aetherians are an ancient space dwelling species with some spiritual significance to members of the Galactic Compact in the realm of the World Of The Long Sleep and in the current age of the Pax Helsporan.
20. Winged		Dragonspiders are one of the species that reached the human continents of Magicians' End from the Dark Domains in the Age of Shadows. Enormous winged spiders, they are large enough to hunt humans.
21. Drown		The Skrurtulgripper is a predatory fish that lives in the northern seas of Magicians' End and is armed with teeth and talons. In combat with humans it frequently drags them into the water to drown them. It was first seen in the seas around Zisleth during the Age of Shadows and is thought to originate from the Dark Domains.
