---|---|---|
23rd Oct 2024 | The Lair of the Snow Angel | A late addition to Spooktober 2024 in the realm of the Lost Retreat. At last there is an explanation for why the Lost Retreat is so named. |
17th Oct 2024 | Clarise Vabatan's Diary : Volume 4 | The fourth volume of the Diary of Clarise Vabatan is now complete and published (also tagged as NSFW). Volume five is in progress but only at an early stage of development. I aim to complete it during November. Now that I've finished Spookober, there is likely to be a little pause on updates whilst I focus on the continuing work on the diary. |
16th Oct 2024 | The Fellstronaut;Elowen and the Spineback | A bit of reorganisation in my Spooktober entries. Aquaraptor Luminaris got demoted because I decided that whilst it works as a simple species it just isn't spooky enough for Spooktober! Instead, I've reassigned the Aetherians to the Otherworldly category, where they also fit nicely, and added the Fellstronaut for the Space category. With Elowen and the Spineback filling the Predator slot I've reached my 13th Spooktober article which brings me over the line. I'm going to leave it there for the challenge. Now I just have a tiny bit of polishing to do on the next volume of the Diary of Clarise Vabatan and it will be ready for publication... |
14th Oct 2024 | Rewitt;Dendros | For the "grotesque" category in Spooktober 2024, an evil Fey who dwells in the Gravehollow and for the "horned" category, the chief servant of Talfamtha in the realm of Earth Rustic. |
13th Oct 2024 | Aquaraptor Luminaris;Synaptic Suicide : The Case Against Synaptic Unbinding Potion | A dinosaur in the realm of Earth Primal is my latest new article for Spooktober 2024. Away from Spooktober, I've added a new text in Magicians' End and enhanced the articles about Synaptic Unbinding Potion and Tobias Golkin, all to support ongoing work on Clarise Vabatan's Diary : Volume 4. |
12th Oct 2024 | Utterland; The Voice of the World;Aetherians | Some reorganisation in the realm of the Lost Retreat, including a map and a short article about the continent of Utterland and some article parenting changes to align things better for future expansion here. All of this to provide a setting for the Voice of the World for Spooktober 2024. Also an article about the Aetherians from the World Of The Long Sleep which has been incorporated into Spooktober 2024. |
7th Oct 2024 | The Gravehollow;Whisperwraith;Dragonspiders | Opened up a new and terrifying archetype, the Gravehollow and added two new articles for Spooktober 2024. |
6th Oct 2024 | Talfamtha;Rabbit Man | Earth Rustic is a quiet backwater realm, little visited by the Stability Council and somewhat neglected by me in recent writing. Spooktober has given me inspiration for the legend of Rabbit Man and his patron, Talfamtha to add a little more depth into this relatively underdeveloped world. |
4th Oct 2024 | Shadow Suckers | An entry for Spooktober 2024. The terrifying creatures that gave their name to the Age of Shadows. |
3rd Oct 2024 | Spooktober 2024;The Marsh Harrow;Noctipedes;Skrurtulgripper | I've decided to have a go at the 2024 Spooktober challenge, because why not? Even though I've been busy with the Diary of Clarise Vabatan, Spooktober should be fun and allows me to fulfil some closely aligned world building needs I have coming up, so I'll divert some of my energies this way this month and aim to complete the required thirteen articles. The first link listed in the articles column is a new parent page for this competition where I can track my progress. This can also be found at the bottom of the page where I keep all my competition specific parent pages. And then there are three new articles to kick off my entries.... |
1st Oct 2024 | Phryne Wedding | A custom observed in the northern lands of the continent of Punjuki on Magicians' End. |
27th Sep 2024 | Feldem's Hunting Lodge;Ivan Feldem | A couple of small articles about a site in the northern foothills of the central Punjuki mountains and its founder. Cross referenced into the overall Magicians' End timeline, the Punjuki map and via a three paragraph addition to the article about the Puzzle Lords Directorate. The location gets a small role in the forthcoming fourth volume of the Diary of Clarise Vabatan which is progressing well and which I hope to be able to make public in the next week or so. |
17th Sep 2024 | Humanity;Ajan Lapset;Accelerated Mortal Fade | Three new articles about the place of humans within the Discontinuum, their relationship to the Fey and a rare condition that sometimes affects the offspring of Fey and Humans. Minor updates to the Melancholia. |
6th Sep 2024 | Currency;Highloft; The Bloomguard;Kalzabah Rhine | A new article about the history of currency on Magicians' End for the world glossary. Updates to the article about the city of Highloft to enrich it a little more. New article about the Bloomguard, the civic protection force for Highloft and a tiny stub article about the Lord Cultivator in the 31st century, Kalzabah Rhine. Minor addition to the article about the Four Aerial Courts to include details about "Aerial Currency". Most of this is to support the ongoing work on volume four of the Diary of Clarise Vabatan. |
28th Aug 2024 | Clarise Vabatan's Diary : Volume 3 | The third volume of the diary is now published and I am moving on to working on volume four. The story takes a darker turn here, especially towards the end of the volume, so please do bear in mind the NSFW tag if this is not your preferred kind of reading. |
11th Aug 2024 | Rapid Onset Severe Silicosis | An uncommon but very unpleasant condition that can afflict the citizens of Katrapetch and the surrounding region of northern Punjuki on Magicians' End. This supporting article will be linked into the writing of volume three of the Diary of Clarise Vabatan, my current focus. |
17th Jul 2024 | The Diary of Clarise Vabatan Clarise Vabatan's Diary : Volume 1 Clarise Vabatan's Diary : Volume 2. | The first two volumes of the diaries of Clarise Vabatan are now complete, although I may make minor edits for consistency at least until all of the story (projected to run to nine volumes) is finished. The parent (index) page is open to all viewers but I have tagged the detailed contents as NSFW, even though most of these first two volumes would be fine for all audiences. Nevertheless, the story will take an increasingly dark turn and I think it best to flag this up from the beginning rather than selectively censor the narrative. My intention is to complete these diaries before progressing to other much shorter historical articles describing world wide events in the age of the Time of Terrors. Only when all of this is complete, will I be moving on forward in the timestream of Magicians' End. The diaries have turned into a major project and I now anticipate working on them for several more months. I currently hope and expect to finish them sometime in the first quarter of 2025, although sooner would be better if I manage to find more time, energy and inspiration in the rest of this year. |
18th Jun 2024 | Ralsimoor | Some updates to this article which was previously only a relatively short stub. Ralsimoor was one of the most important and ancient cities on the continent of Myruthea on Magicians' End until it met an unfortunate fate. I have yet to reach that point in my ongoing documentation of the detailed history of Magicians' End, but when I do I expect this article will be further expanded. |
29th May 2024 | Cliffport | A new article about the Punjuki town of Cliffport, which has a small part to play in my much larger current writing project. |
22nd May 2024 | Eroveth | Eroveth is a regionally important town on the plains of eastern Myruthea and on the western shores of Pale Lake. Small new article and map updates which are all part of a larger piece of ongoing writing that is not yet ready to go public. Also a minor update to the article about the town of Pale with an image of "The Ginger Shop". |
10th Apr 2024 | The Three Stigmata of Myruthea; Kamarin Berr | Some updates to the map of Myruthea and these short articles about a novel and the author. The Three Stigmata of Myruthea was written in the relatively recent past in the long timeline of Magicians' End. I'm continuing to work on something much longer from deeper in that timeline, which is progressing well but is going to take a while to bring to a conclusion. |
17th Mar 2024 | Celovass;Vassith | Celovass is a species of grass cultivated to the south of Katrapetch. The grains are a food stuff and the stems are woven to make Vassith, a cloth that is the foundation of an extensive garment industry in the city. |
14th Mar 2024 | Katrapetch;Royal Palace of Katrapetch | Added a new article about the Royal Palace of Katrapetch and enriched the article about the city itself. These changes are to give me some more context for a longer piece of writing, set within the Time of Terrors (both of these are still very much a work in progress). Updates on that article and the related history article should follow next, but its turning into a more substantial piece of writing than I originally envisaged and will almost certainly run into next month, if not longer. |
23rd Feb 2024 | Magicians' End Linguistic Overview;Languages of Magician's End;Languages of Noctaliya;Languages of the Discontinuum | With this update, I've taken a short break from working on the direct history of Magicians' End to look at something of more indirect importance, the languages, current and historic used in that realm and in the wider Discontinuum. All of this feeds back into the timelines I am building and the history articles which will be coming in future updates... |
16th Jan 2024 | Katrapetch; Katrapetch Phryne Market; The Court Circle of Katrapetch;Sanguine Sisters | New and extended material which will be linked into the history of the Time of Terrors on Magicians' End. I've moved on from the city of Quarowl which contributed to WorldEmber 2023 (see article linked via the previous update) and am currently expanding the lore of the tropical city of Katrapetch. It now has a dedicated timeline, more details and artwork in the main article, plus new sub articles and important historic citizens which I plan to weave into later articles. Also done a little enhancing and re-organising of the Blood Iris Sisters articles with simple articles about two new historic Sanguine Sisters, one of whom has a part to play in future planned work. |
5th Dec 2023 | WorldEmber 2023 | A home page for this year's WorldEmber competition where everything new in this month is linked. |
19th Nov 2023 | The Crimson Codex | An ancient book which is going to play an important role in the history of the Time of Terrors on Magicians' End. I am still writing the main article for this age. It has a number of incompleted sub articles and I have an outline for some more. The details will be added here when it is all completed. Meanwhile, I have also added art to all the Texts in Magicians' End. |
5th Nov 2023 | Klaractazum; Old Pale Empire Road; The Covenant of Nourished Souls;Arcane Amplification Perfume; Synaptic Unbinding Potion; The Nexorin Pathogen;Historical Overview | Enriched the existing article about the city of Klaractazum with more artwork, more written history, and artwork and articles about some of its ancient rulers, plus a brand new institution (The Covenant of Nourished Souls) and last but not least, a city map. Updated the article about the Old Pale Empire Road. Added new ones about Arcane Amplification Perfume,Synaptic Unbinding Potion and the Nexorin Pathogen. Updated the Magicians' End Historical Overview so that there is now a summary of the Time of Terrors plus a stub detail article for it but that remains to be completed (probably with its own timeline) and is my next task. When that's done we'll have reached the year 3642 APC in the main timeline. Then there will only be 3200 more years to document to get to the present day. |
31st Oct 2023 | Quick Story Index | Completed an editing pass across every story to fix some grammatical formatting mistakes with direct speech which I'd made absolutely everywhere and which were pointed out by a reader. Whoops. All fixed now! Added a new story index page to provide a single gateway to all the longer pieces of writing on the site. |
20th Oct 2023 | New Pale Empire; The Four Aerial Courts; The Moderators' Council | Moving on in the Magicians' End timeline I've now reached the year 3004 APC, filling in details which take us about a thousand years forward from the end of the First Popular Ascendancy in 2040 APC. The summary article Historical Overview has been updated to cover this period and the listed new articles describe how those thousand years are divided into three ages, each of which is a jumping off point for a number of smaller linked unlisted articles that add little bits of colour and detail here and there. The Moderators' Council lasts the longest and has its own more detailed time line as well. Next up will be the Time of Terrors... |
27th Sep 2023 | Hella and the Widow | An illustrated short story from the Age of the Long Famine in Magicians' End. I've been working on this tale for a couple of months now and I'm very happy to have finished what I hope is an enjoyable sustained piece of writing which illuminates some of the historical and geographical background I've been building for this realm over an even longer timeframe. I'm now going to resume moving forward through the remaining timeline of Magicians' End but it's unlikely I'll be writing something quite so substantial, for a while at least. I've also created a manuscript for this story for those that prefer it and it is linked on the main page. |
21st Sep 2023 | Claire Argin, Arginbury, The Tree of New Greening, The First Popular Ascendancy | A set of linked articles which cover some of the history of the end of the 19th and the 20th centuries APC on Magicians' End, after the end of the Age of the Long Famine. |
7th Sep 2023 | Turquoise Wallstone | A species of hardy, drought resistant plant found in southern Myruthea, which has useful, but little known culinary properties. |
3rd Sep 2023 | Cooling Pot | Cooling Pots are a feature of everyday life on Magicians' End and one of them will play a part in the story of Hella and the Widow, which I am still working on... |
18th Aug 2023 | Aerochelinaut | An unusual flying fish found on Magicians' End which will feature in a short story I'm writing to add some colour to its long history. That story is coming along well but probably needs another week or two to finish it off and polish it up, before I'll be able to post it as completed here. In the meantime, this little article was fun to put together. |
8th Aug 2023 | Battle of the Rising Deep, Queen Shellesha, Pezulruth Veld. | A flash forward in the Magicians' End timeline with an article about a famous battle of the 34th century APC. I'm working on a legend which provides a back story for the origins of the Net of Pruth (the cause of the Battle of the Rising Deep) and when it is completed, that will put me back on a linear chronological track again, moving forward through Magicians' End increasingly complex and long history. |
22nd Jul 2023 | Super Conjunction | Last article for summer camp (I'm only aiming for copper). For the rest of the month I'll polish existing articles and push on with the ongoing history of Magicians' End with new articles that most likely won't qualify for summer camp. |
21st Jul 2023 | The Great Gaming Hall of Quarowl | Something for summer camp. A famous historic building that onced graced the city of Quarowl. |
20th Jul 2023 | The Net of Pruth;Soque | A couple of small articles, one that I am submitting to summer camp and one that doesn't fit there, but both of them part of the continuing documentation of Magicians' End and its history. |
19th Jul 2023 | Fisher Kings and Queens;Walthar Bass;King Brenden II;Queen Aketheema;Queen Shellesha;King Chrisophe Mere | The hereditary rulers of Nephatar. |
17th Jul 2023 | The Arcane Supremacy; The Puzzle Lords Directorate;Nephatar;Quarowl. | Two organisations and two cities that were important centres of power on Magicians' End in the first two thousand years after the Planar Conformation. |
16th Jul 2023 | Summer Camp 2023 Pledge | So now I have officially signed up for summer camp. I'm only comitting to copper (eight qualifying articles) since I'm late getting into the game but let's see if I can rustle up enough content to fulfill that pledge! |
15th Jul 2023 | Triquetra Orchid | I'm making slow but steady progress moving forward in the timeline of Magicians' End but rather than finishing any one major article I'm gradually building the summary and bouncing about between a half dozen or so detailed period articles, which keep feeding back into one another in interesting ways but which means I'm reluctant to declare any of them publically finished quite yet. There'll be a rush at some point with a big batch of articles all at once. Meantime, here is one I think won't have anything more than minor updates added, if at all. It fits a summer camp theme so I thought I might as well include it in that. Despite all the work I'm doing in WA at the moment, I doubt it'll be aligned well enough with summer camp for me to finish that in time and I haven't even pledged for that reason. We'll just have to see. But I probably will get a few more into the camp somehow! |
25th Jun 2023 | Old Pale Empire, Old Pale Empire Road, The Fall of the Old Pale Empire, The Way of the Harmonic Path | Completed a major article about the Old Pale Empire and its fall, together with a number of more minor supplementary articles, of which, I've only listed the most important in this table, with others that can be found linked within them. There are also two new detailed timelines focusing on the Empire itself and the years of its fall, plus map and location updates, enriching the geography on five continents with more illustrations and longer settlement articles. This is a significant part of a larger ongoing project to document the entire rich history of the realm of Magicians' End. I think I've finally just about said everything that needs to be said about this long and complex era and plan next to move forward into more recent ages in the timeline. |
13th May 2023 | The Old Gods | A lavishly illustrated article about the Old Gods on the continent of Myruthea on Magicians' End, now mostly forgotten but still with important cultural resonances for its peoples. I will be following this up with more details about the other later religions, currently just relatively simple stub articles. Then all of this slots into the growing collection of historical lore for the realm which I really do hope to finish soon, but the time frame keeps slipping back as the amount of material I am creating increases... |
9th May 2023 | Klaractazum and Zalgurim | Two of the ancient and famous cities of Myruthea now have little illustrated articles and the map of the continent has been enriched. |
7th May 2023 | The War of the Three Sisters | The War of the Three Sisters was a complex civil war over the right to succession in the Old Pale Empire, part of the long history of Magicians' End I am working on currently. |
2nd May 2023 | The Northern Punjuki Campaign;Phryne; | The Northern Punjuki Campaign is part of the history of the Old Pale Empire, still itself a work in progress and only one part of the greater work in progress which is a full timeline for Magicians' End, with many more supporting articles. I am intending to complete the history over the next month and further updates will follow. Feel free to settle down with a nice cup of ryne if you choose to read them. |
25th Apr 2023 | Kingdom of Snowborne | The Kingdom of Snowborne was a historically important nation in Magicians' End and this new article tells you all about it, with some supporting linked content and a map. There's much more to come in Magicians' End, over the next week or so, I hope, when I have time to finish a number of partially written stubs. It's been reorganised to accomodate the new content and I'll be moving forward documenting later ages in its new timeline. |
15th Apr 2023 | The Planar Conformation | An article about one of the more violent events in the physics of the multiverse, particularly affecting the realm of Magicians' End, where I am also in the process of creating a timeline and doing some mapping work. Some of the furniture is likely to be moved around inside this realm over the next couple of weeks. |
1st Apr 2023 | Yvessu in Carafon | A new header article and a new story fragment in The Lost Retreat, just to take advantage of some of the new world building in the previous update. That will probably be all for a little while in this realm as I want to take a short break from these adventures, although I have some fresh ideas now for how they will continue when I pick them up again. |
31st Mar 2023 | Cavern City of Carafon; The Words From The Dark;Pantheon of the Hidden Radiance | A major update in The Lost Retreat, which I've been working on for most of the last month, including a large new article about the Cavern City of Carafon, with a multi-layer map. There are also a number of ancillary articles, most of which I haven't listed here, but they can all be found under the Carafon article. This has been a significant piece of world building and two of the most important supplementary articles concerning the religion of the city, I have linked separately here, just to highlight them. |
21st Mar 2023 | Ilexshale | A short article with a few images about the town of Ilexshale in the realm of The Lost Retreat, at the furthest navigable point upsteam on the Skeld River. |
8th Mar 2023 | The Discontinuum;Geometries | Made new artwork in Midjourney for the Discontinuum itself (as a concept) and dedicated abstract artwork for use as a header for each of the articles within the Geometries category. Refreshed the world header image to use the new Discontinuum image and made it the global article header default. This is a more appropriate default than the previous image of the klane which only related to the The World Of The Long Sleep. |
6th Mar 2023 | Tarsal Landing | Created a brand new article and associated map all about the port town of Tarsal Landing in the realm of The Lost Retreat. |
4th Mar 2023 | Klane Kalonia and the Awakening of History : Story Home | The eighth and final story from the Legends of Klane Kalonia, is now available in manuscript form and with a story home page bringing the original articles together with a gallery in the same format as for the first three stories. Stories four to seven exist only as outlines in my mind at the moment. They are unlikely to be written up in the near future as they are not at the front of my creative project queue and it's possible I may never complete them. It is totally fine to skip ahead to this story and read it without needing the intermediate tales. |
28th Feb 2023 | Klane Kalonia and the Great Burning : Story Home | The third story from the Legends of Klane Kalonia, is now available in manuscript form and with a story home page bringing the original articles together with a gallery in the same format as for the first two stories. |
24th Feb 2023 | Moon Tigers | Added Moon Tigers to the list of creatures with articles for Bestiary February. |
24th Feb 2023 | The Creature in the Crater : Story Home | The Creature in the Crater, which is the second story from the Legends of Klane Kalonia, is now available in manuscript form and with a story home page bringing the original articles together with a gallery in the same way as for the story of the Station of Seers. |
20th Feb 2023 | Station Of Seers : Story Home | Published a manuscript version of the story of Station Of Seers from the Legends of Klane Kalonia. This can be found in a new story home article, in which I have also included all the existing article blocks from the tale and a gallery for the art. These additions are simply alternative presentations, intended to make the story easier to access. The content is still available under the original category tree view as well. I plan to make the same changes to the other completed stories within the legends in the near future, so that they will all offer these options for reading. | 13th Feb 2023 | Dentatosaurus | Short article to add the dentatosaurus from Earth Primal to the February 2023 Bestiary. |
12th Feb 2023 | Kingdom of Han;People of the Kingdom | Further enrichment of the article about the Kingdom of Han and a brand new article about the peoples of the kingdom, their ethnicities and some of the important individuals. |
10th Feb 2023 | Laurasia;Gondwana;Kingdom of Han;Hanjing;Cave Farmer | The Diplopack article inspired me to launch into creating more context for the creature via new content for Earth Primal, which has been one of the evolutions within the Discontinuum that was least developed. Now there is a major new article about the Kingdom of Han, two new maps, a reorganised hierarchy for existing articles grouped under their ancient continents and several new articles sitting inside the Kingdom of Han, of which only the most important ones are listed here (but the others can easily be found inside the main article). There is also lots of new artwork and a new timeline for Earth Primal, which I now feel is starting to develop some interesting depth. Although the outline here feels good, I am sure I will flesh out some more of the details in future updates. |
8th Feb 2023 | Diplopack | Added the Diplopack to the articles in the Bestiary February challenge, a domesticated beast of burden on Earth Primal. |
7th Feb 2023 | Dry Hopper | Added the Dry Hopper to the articles in the Bestiary February challenge. |
6th Feb 2023 | Forest Mystish;Pearl Hart;Ptral;Karasatten | Added four new species articles for the Bestiary February challenge. |
5th Feb 2023 | Neowasps;Spider Wolf | Created two new articles for the Bestiary February challenge. |
4th Feb 2023 | Bestiary February;Alegoyle. | Created a parent page for the World Anvil February 2023 Challenge and an article for it about the alegoyle, a species which already featured in the Legends Of Klane Kalonia under the World of the Long Sleep and now has its own spot in the glossary. |
2nd Feb 2023 | You're Here! | Created the What's New page you are reading now. |
1st Feb 2023 | Anoomenon; Anoomenon Governments; The Law Council; The Rationalist Council; The Grey Kings; The Great Impartial Court | Streamlined the major article about Anoomenon by extracting text from the main body into a fully fledged sub article about the history of its various governments and grouped new and existing sub articles under that for the major types. Added some new artwork to the main article, linked in the Iron Sentinel and made various editorial improvements to the text and layout. |
30th Jan 2023 | Listlessness Plague | A new article with details of the most significant disease to ever afflict the Awakened World. |
26th Jan 2023 | Anoomenon The Iron Sentinel | A new article about a great townhouse in Anoomenon |
Unofficial Challenge Badges
