The Dremoran Antagonists
Antagonists are a group – a secondary "pantheon" – of powerful beings who physically and/or ideologically oppose one member of the Dremoran pantheon. The origins of some antagonists are shrouded in mystery and often unknown, while others have origins that often mirror the ascension of the Dremoran gods. Antagonists can range from monstrosities that are barely humanoid to so life-like and mortal that they can hardly be distinguished from the general populace. Interactions between members of the Dremoran pantheon and their Antagonists vary: from allies to mortal enemies. Some Antagonists may be sequestered away, while others may roam across the land where their opposed Spirit serves as patron. Regardless, an Antagonist must exist for each member of the Dremoran Pantheon in one shape or form... per the rules.
The Cycle of Life and Death
In the religious views of Dremora, Life and Death are not opposing concepts, but are rather different points in a single cycle. They are not opposites or antagonistic forces. Thus, the Matrons of Life and Death cannot serve as the other's antagonist. However, until recently, both had struck their Antagonists from almost all records in an attempt to wipe them from the memory of all mortals. Now, however, the existence of their Antagonists has slowly begun to resurface.
Current Antagonists
As there are 12 members of the Dremoran pantheon, there are 12 current Antagonists:
- Akeldama – Wife of Lark, sand-scored curator, and devourer of art.
- Artemilla – Supporter of introspection and discipline as the path to true pleasure and delight.
- Harbinger – The hunter of the hunter and bringer of rot and decay.
- Ismera – the traveling librarian, coveter of knowledge, seeker of friends, and dragon of duality.
- Kagero – the malicious tormentor of travelers and whisperer of doubt.
- Nessa – the maiden of stagnation and bane of Nacheevi's wheel.
- Omen – horror of the depth and commander of the beasts of the Abyss.
- The Greatwyrms – a draconic council of four in service of Caliban.
- The Lady of Winter – a cold, yet motherly figure overcoming a shattered mind.
- Tolvaj – a monstrosity that delights in tormenting dryads and bartering for souls.
