In Gratic City:
What Happened
After collecting their reward from the Captain of the Imperial Army in Ashton, the group collected their things and proceeded to travel back to the capital to resupply and perhaps gather a few minor magic items before making the arduous journey through the Snowlaid Pass to Schinter. As they travelled west, they went back through Redfort and reminisced about their adventures in the forest. While staying the night in Redfort, Melé had a dream about being awakened by the arrival of a large winged creature with no mouth and no nose, only bright white pupil-less eyes. The creature produced a blade, but quickly reassured Melé that it was a servant of Yali, Melé's deity. It told her to beware the "forks in the road" and that something suitably evil was coming, as even Yali's godly sight could not quite divine the source of the evil. It then disappeared and then she woke up and told the party what she had found. Arriving in Gratic City, the group settled in for the night at the Broken Tankard, their favoured haunt in the city. There, they learned that The Stalwart Shield had already left to head south for an assignment and that they wouldn't be in the city for a while. Considering that the four of them were about to head west to Schinter anyway, it was no big loss. The four spent the night at the Broken Tankard, with Daz providing music late into the night. The following day, they went shopping for magical items and ritual scrolls, meeting Walkhar for the first time. At Walkhar's store Daz purchased a ritual scroll that could put a group of people to sleep and Gúrda bought one that would allow the group to walk on water; rather helpful against a group of pirates. Afterwards, Gúrda, ever the reader, went to Books of Wonder and purchased a book on the geography of Schinter. This would allow the group to easily make their way through the Schintian countryside and not get lost. After going shopping, the group was intercepted by a pair of guards saying that they were needed at The Grand Castle; they were expected by the General himself, recently returned from business elsewhere in The Gratic Empire. They accepted and went to the Castle and met with the General, Kelem Aaperas, who told them that he had heard news of their accomplishments and wanted to meet them in person. Daz mentioned the letter that Meti had received, noting the name at the bottom, Jonitan Kilas. The General recognized the name as belonging to the owner of an estate not far from Eleikar Town, but couldn't provide any more information. After meeting the general, the party set out, spending a couple of days travelling across the Gratic Plain. On the third day of their travels, they came across a strange sight; an artificial stone platform holding four statues and a small pile of coins. Daz, always the clever one, quickly deduced that this was a trap and that he should check to see if the statues were real. Stabbing one, it let out a yelp of pain, revealing them to be Stonemen, statues of people animated by magical moss found in the mountains. After quickly fighting the creatures, the group collected their treasure and moved on, staying the night at The Last Post, a well-known boarding house at the base of the Snowlaid Pass.Gúrda Thérun
