Kykláxos (ký.klaksos)

Kykláxos is one of the Kaphtor Islands, and is central to the culture of the Kaphtori people. It is the center of worship for the Daemones, those spirits and gods associated with the Kaphtori cultures. There is a temple located near the center of the island known as the Pantheon, in the shadow of Zoi, that is said to mark the spot where the Kaphtori first arrived in this world during the reign of the Nakaal, and it contains shrines dedicated to every major Daemon of the main Kaphtor Islands. Notably absent are the Daemones of Chalkós, who are considered a separate group by the priests of the Pantheon, and the god Ídhi, who is the patron of the Kaphtori Aethry exclusively.   The largest settlement on the island is Caria. It is one of the richest ports in the region, mostly due to the gold mines found in the central mountains. The artisans of Caria are known for some of the finest goldwork in the entire Great Ring.

Notable Spirits

The most significant spirits on the island are Zoí Epáno, who the Kaphtori consider to be the King of the Daemones and Zoí Parakáto, the queen of the earth. Worship of the Daemones is centered around the mountain that these gods share, and together with Zoí Ypovrýchia, they embody the sky, earth, and waters of the Kaphtor Islands. Zoí Epáno was the first of the gods to befriend the Kaphtori when they arrived in this world, and aided them in the war against the Nakaal. In return, they elevated him over the old gods worshipped by the deposed Nakaal sorcerer-kings, whose names are now forgotten.

Geography

The island of Kykláxos is almost a perfectly round island, with the most notable indent being the Carian Bay on the southeastern coast. The western shore is known for having long, sandy beaches, while the eastern coast is rockier with high cliffs overlooking the sea. Inland, the terrain varies between high mountains and lush fertile valleys.

Ecosystem

Kykláxos has a variety of ecosystems, including mountain forests, coastal plains, and wetlands. The lush vegetation and cultivated areas of the inland region provides a home to many bird species, including owls, buzzards, and the griffon vulture. There are many species of mammal and reptile as well. The most famous animal is the Cyclopean Elephant, a species of dwarf elephant that has a single eye in the center of its forehead.
