Llynbaet

"On the nights of the full moon, if you go out on the lake, you can still see his body lying there on the bottom." - Cairllyn local legend
Llynbaet is the largest lake in Creoda. The city of Cairllyn is the largest settlement on the lake. It is best known as the location where Fulmen killed Illustrata, in the early days of the Age of Warlocks. Llynbaet has always been a center of myths and legends, and the duel between the two Clarati sorcerers has only heightened the lake's mystique.

Geography

The lake is over eleven miles long, and nearly a mile wide at points, and lies in a steep-sided river valley. It is drained at the north end by the River Fee, which winds north and discharges into the Bay of Bees. It is fed by several smaller streams, including the River Bec and the River Trot. There are eighteen islands in the lake of various sizes, the largest of which is named Ynys Hir. The lake has an average depth of about 70 feet, but there are points where it reaches over two hundred feet in depth. There is a rumor that there is a bottomless pit somewhere in the lake, but that has never been confirmed.

Fauna & Flora

The region around Llynbaet is lush and supports a wide array of animal and plant life. One of the most memorable is the Gwenynog, a small mammal with the wings of a bee and quills of a hedgehog. This strange creature is known to tend beehives, seemingly accepted as one of the bees. The Gwenynog eats insects and honey, and hives with a Gwenynog associated with them tend to thrive more than those without. The Gwenynog is not a graceful flier, but it does manage to bumble through the air, making with a distinctive 'whizzing' sound.
