The Divine Schism
Disagreement among the gods over how involved they should be in the mortal affairs of Valine led to Gama and Eruer decreeing that those deities that wished to be more involved should have their powers limited in comparison to the other gods who refrain from interaction with mortals. The pantheon split into Greater and Lesser Deities, the Greater deities indirectly involved in Valinian affairs, while the Lesser Deities are more hands on with the mortal races. Gama and Eruer themselves withdrew from direct influence almost entirely, turning their attention to broader cosmic affairs and acting as arbiters to disputes amongst the other gods.
In the context of the gods, one might consider the Divine Schism to be ongoing, as the 900 or so years since the event are insignificant in terms of a deities existence.
