The Duchy of Midwald

Geography

The Duchy Of Midwald sits on the western border of The Princedom Of Altdorf and is a prime estate of the Grand Prince of the Reikland.

Barony of Weissbruck and environs
This map has been extracted from the inside back cover of the WFRP 4e Enemy in Shadows supplement where it is too small and dark to read properly.

It's southern border follows the line of the River Tahme. Whilst its western border runs through the area of The Hägercrybs known as The Heuvals and into the Seifehugel Hills before turning westwards to the banks of the River Bogen just south of Castle Grauenburg.   The Ducal boundary then follows the line of the River Bogen along its northern boundary until it meets the board of The Princedom Of Altdorf again near the village of Gramdorf.

Ecosystem

The Duchy of Midwald encompasses part of the area of the Reikland known as the Hägercrybs. A range of heavily forested hills that dominate central Reikland, stretching from the Princedom of Altdorf to the Freistadt of Ubersreik.   This are is rugged that very few roads run through them east to west, a major inconvenience for many travellers. They are mainly used by men for sheep-herding, and many shepherds live throughout the hills. In addition, the nobles of the Hägercrybs regularly attempt to sink mines into the hills. Most fail, but a few strike it rich, bringing great wealth to their owner.

Natural Resources

The Duchies main asset it the forest which covers most of its estate and timbar is a major trading resource.   This activity also clears land for the grazing of sheep and provides a secondary trade in wool, mutton, leather and parchment.   The Duchess of Midwald has a particular interest in the copper which is said to lay beneath the Heavals though as yet she has yet to fully exploit its potential and no roads or mines have been established.
