Albenued
Albenued is a small island found in the Disservive Gulf and is a few day's journey from sea from the Kingdom of Roln. It primarily serves as the headquarters for the Order of Sunphler, the most elite minds of magic and science from all across Roscrea and beyond. The College of Albenued is the jewel of the island and is connected to the Halls of Albuened where the masters of magic reside, via Progression Bridge. The college also connects to the town of Keprial, which sits high on an island surrounded by a moot with stark cliffs. There, the staff of the college reside.
History
Albeuened was first discovered in 5111 2E, when what was described as a huge "ball of fire" came from the sky and flew across Evermist and Roscrea before landing somewhere in the Disservive Gulf. Kingdom Roln sent scouting vessels to see what had become of the meteor but instead found the island of Albeuned after three days of sailing. After the scouts returned, they alerted their king, Remes III of their discovery and that smoke was reported from coming off the northern end of the island, An expedition force was assembled to rediscover the island. Once found again, the expedition force set up a small village known as Merricoup and searched the island for the meteor, only to cease because of a growing feeling of "unease and general wrongness". The island was considered a part of Kingdom Roln's territory and served little less than a fishing village from Merricoup, until one day, in the year 5512 2E the Count Wizard at the time, dealing with personal strife in his life, wished to find a place of seclusion to meditate. He found himself on the island after an inexplicable pull drew him to the location. For years he wandered about the island and lived off the land until one day, he discovered on the north end of the island the meteor that had crashed. He found that at the center of the meteor was just the smallest trace of rhine. He had to use the strongest of his spell wards to try and disperse the raw energy coming from the rhine, and his body suffered greatly, ruining his lungs and causing his skin to turn blue. After nearly dying to the rhine, the Count Wizard then thought of the idea of setting up an official order of mages, wizards, and magic users to study away from the mainland. He rushed back to Roscrea and received permission from the emperor to create the Order of Sunphler. He was also reinstated to his position of Count Wizard, much to the secret dismay of his second, Valmanus Fenned, who had taken over duty as Count Wizard in his voluntary exile. Construction soon began on the College of Albuened with the oversight of the Count Wizard. Soon, hundreds of magic students and masters across Roscrea were flocking to the island to help create the Order of Sunphler. Valmanus Fenned, however, who had gained support from other magic wielders for his more progressive takes on magic, soon sailed to the island and attacked the constructing college with his loyals, burning it to the ground. The Count Wizard met Valmanus Fenned on what is now known as the Island of Sight, which sits between the northern and southern island of Albeuned and began a great duel so intense it nearly sunk the entire island. The Count Wizard would come out victorious, and Valmanus Fenned would be killed. His loyals would disperse into the Valed Vallies to the southeast. Construction on the college would presume in a new location where it is now located today and the Order of Sunphler was firmly established from that day forward.Geography
The island is home to varying degrees of biomes. To the west of the college lies the Red Forest, where tall, red trees that poke out above the oak trees. The forest has an ethereal feel to it, and several students and masters alike prefer to live in the forest than the college itself. It is rumored that the residue magic from the thousands of experiments from within the college have been "carried with the wind", enchanting the forest in special ways.
To the south of the red forest lies the sprawling and rolling plains, simply known as the Western Plains, where rich, fertile grasslands lie. Three very small islands are found to the west of the plains. The borders of the plains end at small mounts that separate the Red Forest and the Western Plains, which also contain the entrance to a sprawling underground cave network beneath the island, which is known as the Depths of Borel.
Toward the center of the island lies large mountains that overlook both the college and the rest of Albeuned altogether, and to the southeast of these mountains lies the region known as the Veiled Valley, which contains numerous pine trees and hilly landscapes.
Notable Locations
Depths of Borel- Named after one of the most famous dwarven mages, the Depths of Borel are found on the slopes of the mountains that separate the Red Forest from the Western Plains and is the entrance to a sprawling underground cave network beneath the island. Tower of Zen- A large wizard's tower whose owner's name has been lost to time. The tower has been transformed into a place of healing and reflection as a sort of hospital, but many masters wish to revert the tower back into their own ownership. Shrine of Lassensta- A small shrine found at the southernmost point of the island dedicated to the worship and remembrance of Lassensa, who first brought magic into Wold from his fall from Oligorus. Merricoup- Known also as the "Gateway to Albeuned", Merricoup is a sizeable village that handles the imports and exports of the island from its sizeable docks. Fulcrum Keep- A large keep found on a small island southeast of Albeuened. It holds the Sentries of Arcana, which protects the students in the college. Touresmarcht Keep- A small keep found on the southwest of the island that is used as a place of stay for the emperor whenever they wish to visit the island. When not in use, it is garrisoned by a small force of soldiers and servants to keep the Keep in shape.
