Mind Splinter

by Never Nestknitter

Since there's something controllin' the minds of things, we knew we had to go into the Ankheg tunnels to destroy it. Soon after we went in we heard someone sayin', "get out of my head!" It turned out to be a Tiefling Mage. He had one of those mind controlling shards in his arm. I remembered that ring we found outside, and asked if his name was Isqaph'l. He said it was. I knew we'd have to tell him his husband was dead, but decided to hold off on that. Mostly because he started tryina fight us. We all tried different things to try to get that mind controlling shard outta him without hurting him. We tried restraining him, we tried attackin the shard... finally Rankle got it out, and it shattered. Isqaph'l stopped tryin to fight us, and asked us about his husband. Arc told me I was the best one to tell him the truth. Well like I've said before, I'm not so good a peopling, so he started yellin at us and told us we were useless. I pointed out his husband was obviously more useless as he was dead an' we weren't. That didn't seem to appease him though, and Arc took back what he said about me being better with people.

We came to the meteor and there were two shards on the ground by it. Abby, who not more 'n a day ago yelled at everyone about being rash, jabbed one into his arm, and walked right into the rock! Now, I think we shoulda come up with a game plan first, but clearly that weren't gonna happen, so I went right in after Abby. It was pitch black inside. Rankle and Arc came soon after. We waited a while... and finally I stuck my head out and told the others to hurry the hell up. Barg came in after that an' told us Rerae wanted to stay with Aubrey and Rakie. I couldn't see a thing, but would come ta find out there were ankhegs, a tunneler, and a mind shard all that we had ta fight off. All hell broke loose. Mid fight I went deaf. I think some of the others did too. Also we couldn't speak, which meant no spells. Arc fell, an I did my best to protect him. I can't let another charge die on my watch. Then I went unconscious. Then I wasn't., and neither was Arc. Arc Shattered that ole Mind Shard. and a short sword falls out of it! Apparently it can make it so you can see when normally you wouldn't be able to see. Mighty useful sounding. Oh, and it goes by the name of, "Mind Splinter!" Sounds creepy. I bet it's cursed.
