The Adventure Begins

by Never Nestknitter

I think it's finally happening, I'm going on an adventure! When I woke up this morning, it was like any other day. I washed up, tidied my cottage, and headed to River's Rest for breakfast. That's where I got the tragic news that 'ol Irin Glimmercutter was found dead in his shop this morning. Some folk even think it was murder! This sort of thing rarely happens in Qorin. That's not all of the excitement of the day though. Just as I was about to order additional breakfast, what do you know, a metal man walks in the door! A. Metal. Man! Boy howdy did I ask him some questions. For some reason, he wouldn't answer any of them though, 'cept for his name. He said to call him, Arc. Well, I barely get through questioning Arc, and in walks an Orc I've never seen before. I think he must of been powerful hungry, cuz just like Arc, the only question he answered was his name. Which was Barg. You'd think that would be it but next, and if I'm lyin' I'm dyin', a Fairy flutters just as if it were the most normal thing ever. Now this guy, I really like, he answered ALL of my questions! He's called Rankle. So the four of us get to chatting and decide to go look into this here death. Normally I'd be doing this sort of thing on my own, but I'm happy for the company. Anyway, we call on Mishtehrr Salnitan to tell her we're going to investigate. She gives us a writ to get in places and promises us a total of 250 gold if we can solve the crime. Man alive, a sum like that, even split up, is enough to get me started on this wandering I've been itchin' to do. Might even be enough to throw a little the Merrymeads way so they can get to fixin up Rivers Rest. Well just as we get to Gemcutters shop, we're met by a guy dressed as a mummy. Well, of course I go through all of my typical getting to know someone questions, and wouldn't ya know, this one doesn't answer a one of them, not even his name! Course that could have somthin' to do with the fact that he doesn't seem to talk at all. For now, I'll just call the silent guy, Bob. Well he indicates that he wants to help us, so we let him. Poor Irin's body is covered in what we figured out were bites and claw marks from some sorta creature. Weren't any chunks missing though so whatever it was wasn't munchin' on him. Upon further investigation we found Lahri Dorfash's signet ring, which was weird cuz supposedly he had already gotten that back. We also found a bit of gold and blue quartz. Irin's not gonna be needing that and it would be a shame to let it go to waste, so we just kept that. Outside, Rankle found a hooved footprint. That little guy has some great eyes! One of the others decided the best thing to do next would be to talk to the village drunk. So we did. She was ranting and raving about dragons. It's like she could see right into my nightmares. Next we headed to Lahri Dorfash's palace to find out about the ring situation. Sure enough, he does have his ring already so this one we found is a highly illegal duplicate! We tell him about the other clues we found and he mentions something about a Pact Drake and suggests we go back to talk to Mishtehrr Salniran. I'm starting to get a little nervous with all this drake and dragon talk, but I keep it to myself. Well she confirms that there used to be a Pact Drake called, Ovanix in these parts, but he hasn't been seen in two or three years. I've been living here nearly 20 years and this is the first I'm hearing about it! Oh and did I mention it's a black drake? The others don't seem too bothered by it, but I know better. A drake is practically a dragon, and there's nothin scarier in this world than a black dragon. Salniran then says that we're going to need to travel about 180 miles south to this things cave so's we can have a conversation with it! As if that's not bad enough, all of a sudden we all hear a creepy disembodied voice, calling itself a guide and going on about something being wrong. By this point we're all mighty hungry so we head back To River's Rest. I told Lilli I'd be leaving in the morning for some time and asked her to look in on my cottage while I'm gone. She agreed, but wasn't happy to hear I'd be going so soon. None of these guys have much money, so I told 'em all they could sleep at my cottage so long as they were OK with sleepin' on the floor. The others seem a might creeped out by Arc's face, but I think he's a wonder! I hope I can sleep tonight. I don't know if I'm more scared or excited.
