Vaernebo (VARE-NEH-BO)

Vaernebo is a frozen, icy landscape with mountainous and rocky terrain. Wide valleys engulfed by towering peaks make up the majority of the region's inhabitable regions, while the mountains themselves account for nearly ninety percent of the territory itself. This makes Vaernebo the smallest nation in Elzveir, with the fewest settlements and least developed land by a wide margin.

Geography

The majority of Vaernebo is impassable mountainous terrain covered in snow and ice. Terrain apart from the mountains is often flat, rocky, and challenging to traverse. This was the least-desirable area of the north when the Fainarran royals fought over the land and eventually divided it among themselves roughly two centuries ago, and for good reason. So little of the land is inhabitable that Vaernebo has the fewest settlements of any nation in Elzveir, and even those settlements are comparably small. Much of Vaernebo's inhabitants are associated with the Fainarran military, and are thus only present to ensure no one else can be.

Batalkan

Also referred to as the West Shields, Batalkan is a mountain range encircling western Vaernebo. This range features several wide but relatively low mountains, allowing the sunset to cast long rays of golden light across the central flats of Vaernebo.

Leonov's Landing

Once the site of a prosperous port city where goods were ferried from Aduna to Vaernebo, this site is now a place of ruin and ash, dubbed Leonov's Landing after King Leonov Mhiina of Miliim brought his dragon and laid waste to the city, slaughtering thousands of innocents in the process.

Rozhi's Shieldwall

While Vaernish locals prefer to strip the region of the Rozhi portion of the proper name and refer to this region simply as Eastshield or Shieldwall, this wide expanse of mountains gets its name from a heroine of the north who fought against Fainarr, Rozhi Yarnthdottir. This mountain range, like the West Shields, features numerous clustered wide mountains, and serves as a border between Vaernebo and Aldurstein.
