Pace Starset
Pace Starset, or more commonly referred to as Captain Pace, is an experienced sailor of the seas of Arkos. Born to a human father and half-elf mother, Pace wished to follow in her mother's footsteps from a young half-elven age in becoming a privateer. Venturing out on her own from her home port town of Singore in the Crescent Empire, Pace eventually joined the treasure hunting group led by the infamous BattleMaster Riker, and entered a romantic relationship with him at some point during their voyages across Western Arkos. In the first of a series of abrupt ends to Pace's intimate relationships, Pace and Riker's crew mutined against him when his seeking of a jewel known as the Eye of put them all in danger. In their final confrontation, Pace stabbed Riker's eye with the jewel while Riker cut off her left hand, leading her to replace it with a mechanical bronze talon.
Upon returning to Crescentia after her ordeal, Pace learned from her father that her mother had perished at sea, leaving her father to beg her to quit sailing. In rebellion against her father, and still fueled by her separation from Riker, Pace fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a privateer. Assembling a hearty crew of sailors and well-meaning scallywags alike, Pace set about sailing the seas around Crescentia alongside her trusty first mate the lovable Mr. Arrow, making a decent wage and name for herself. It was during this time that she first met Jason Dierdre / Reaver, who at the time had only recently abandoned The Followers of Nex. In exchange for Reaver's help in saving her crew from attacking beast tribes, she offered to ferry him to different parts of Crescentia.
In the year 999 3A, Captain Pace met the members of The Companions, and became one of their most staunch and reliable allies. In addition to transporting them across Crescentia in her ship 'The Invincible', she helped the adventuring group defeat the dread pirate Morgana Le Fleur, with her losing her ship to the sea in the process. Through gnomish technology, she allowed her new ship, 'The New Dawn', to be transformed into a flying airship.
Throughout the course of the group's journey, Pace entered into a romantic relationship with Dagorn Balefrost of the Companions, albeit trepidatiously due to her experience with Alec Riker. Pace eventually helped the group to avert The Kindling and ultimately stop Nex during the Battle of the New Dawn, fighting beside Reaver outside the Imperial Palace / The Dreadspire. After the battle ended, Dagorn left amid the celebration to fulfill a deal he had made, stating that Pace would not see him again for many years. In what should have been a moment of joyous celebration, Pace was once again left feeling betrayed and scorned.
In the three years that followed, Pace devoted everything she had to tracking down Dagorn, tracing him to the Oreion Inquisition. However, her endeavours cost her most of her gold, and eventually her ship once again. While Mr. Arrow and her crew tried to intervene and convince her to let Dagorn go, she took their kindness as another act of betrayal. Seeing no other alternative, Mr. Arrow and her crew reluctantly parted ways from her.
Embittered and turning to drink, Pace spent two years in Kingdom of Velant's capital of Rimora, renouncing her relationship with Dagorn and wallowing in self-pity. Upon being found in a drunken stupor by Jason Dierdre / Reaver, he took care of her for a while until she began a recovery.
Wanting to repay Jason for the kindness he showed her, Pace has presently set out from Velant to look for him, following his disappearance after the defeat of Janus.
