Machanus: Plane of The Great Wheel; sometimes is called Nirvana, or The Clockwork Nirvana of Mechanus - cosmology representing the alignment of lawful neutral[8] and home of the modrons.

Even individuals living here exist to fit into the greater scheme of things and thus achieve a perfect society. There is no pain, as the only pleasure is in successfully filling a role like a gear in a machine. Passion, fantasy, and illusion does not exist here, except for what might be brought in by visitors. Any who try to rouse a sense of individualism or stir passions for a cause soon found they are not well received.

The only creatures truly native to Mechanus are the Modrons, a race of beings organized in a rigid caste system and ruled by Regulus. Modron is the language spoken by the Modrons - To humanoids, it sounds like a series of "clicks and whirs". The most common Modrons are the Monodrones, single-function drones used as common laborers, servants, or soldiers. These drone soldiers do travel to Acheron plane: The Infernal Battlefield to do battle.
Mechanus is connected to the Prime Material Planes via the Astral Plane, and to other Outer Planes including Acheron plane: The Infernal Battlefield and The Outlands, by portals which appear once every revolution of the gears they belong to. The period of rotation depends on the size of the gear - a typical period tends to be twenty days. The portals stays open for exactly one day. There is one portal to Concordant Opposition, located at the centre of the featureless bottom side of a large gear - it is continually open.
Sehanine Moonbow has an occasional residence in Mechanus - the two moons rotations are as if by clockwork.
Mechanus is a place of rules. Law and process. Organization above all. The denizens of this place disagree on how order is to be maintained, but in the end everyone serves The Great Wheel's structure. For without structure, we are nothing.

This plane is filled with an infinite number of country-sized circular interlocking gears which are habitable on one or both sides. These great flat wheels are at least 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) in diametre, and the teeth of these wheels mesh at right angles, all turning in a slow synchronicity. Each disk has its own gravity that operated in a sphere circumscribing it exactly and pulling normal to the top and bottom surfaces. The areas between the gears is filled with air, allowing easy flight.
