The Kingsguard of Tyon I Cray
Founding
King Tyon I Cray's Kingsguard were founded following Battle of Bayglen and his coronation in January of 442KS. Following the upheaval of the past years the landed members of Lady Sola's Vanguard would be required to return to their own lands to govern them. Furthermore, many of the previously unlanded members of the group were rewarded by Tyon with lands of their own which they would need to attend to. So, absent his usual company of knights, he chose to formally create a band of knights sworn to protect the King. His coronation had attracted the attention of a great many visitors, and so when the word went out that the king was looking to take on a group of sworn knights there were plenty of volunteers. In particular, the vigilante band The Kingsroad Fellowship swore themselves en masse to the King's service.Recruitment
Appointment to the Kingsguard is limited strictly to the King. Freshly recruited members swear an oath to serve the King, and amend their sigil and accoutrement to include a diagonal sash of the King's orange.Expectations
In addition to the usual expectations, rights and responsibilities inherent in being a Knight of Somercrag, there are some additional expectations placed on members of the Kingsguard:- A member of the Kingsguard is sworn to protect the King, laying down their life in his defence if necessary.
- A member of the Kingsguard is sworn to protect the King's family, except where doing so would jeopardise the King himself.
- A member of the Kingsguard is sworn to protect the members of the King's Royal Council, except where doing so would jeopardise the King or a member of his family.
- A member of the Kingsguard is forbidden from owning lands, holding titles, or swearing any other oaths while they remain in the Kingsguard, lest those obligations conflict with those of their role. This includes marriage.
- A member of the Kingsguard is forbidden from having children, whether naturally or by adoption, regardless of marriage, except where those children are recognised as adults.
- A member of the Kingsguard is forbidden from having an intimate relationship of any sort with a fellow member of the Kingsguard, or any member of the King's family or the Royal Council.
- A member of the Kingsguard is free to other kinds of relationships so long as their fellow knights and the King do not consider them to impede on their ability to serve.
- A member of the Kingsguard is free to leave at any time by declaring this intent in the presence of the King and the Commander of the Kingsguard. There is no shame in ending this service. A member of the Kingsguard who is forced to leave their service due to injury shall receive honour and the offer of a place in the King's Court.
- A member of the Kingsguard found to be in violation of their oath shall be subject to punishment, as determined by the King. In the absence of the king, a quorum of three other members of the Kingsguard or the Commander and one other member may pass judgement in the King's place.
