Districts

Teiykou is divided into a number of districts.

Palace District

The palace district situated in western Teikyou contains a number of important locations including guest residences, exam grounds, crypts, armories, gardens, shines, dojos, and four palaces, three of which are used by the Fujiwara family.
Genbu Palace (Tortoise, North, Black, Winter)
Seiryū Palace (Dragon, East, Teal, Spring)
Suzaku Palace (Phoenix, South, Red, Summer)
Byakko Palace (Tiger, West, White, Autumn)

Inner District

The inner district contains many of the residences of landed nobility and other prominent figures in Teikyou, as well as the southern dockyards and high market. Situated near the mouth of the Kōga river, it borders the palace district to the west, market district to the east, and outer city to the south.

Market District

The market district, divided into north and south by the Kōga river, is the center of trade and commence in Teikyou, directly bordering the Inner District to the west. As a world port, Teikyou receives some of the highest volume of trade in the world, and its market district is accordingly large. Five bridges span the Kōga river, connecting the north and south market districts: the Red Phoenix bridge, the Grand Bridge, the Jade Bridge, the Market Bridge, and the Ferryman's Bridge. Additionally, locks help regulate the flow of the river to facilitate boat traffic.

Outer City

Teikyou's outer city accounts for the large majority of its population, and largely consists of dense housing and commercial zones including the Rat's Market, the Red Lamp District, the Shipwright's District, and many others.

Geography

Teikyou is a massive population center thanks to the bountiful crop yields permitted by the presence of the nearby Kōga river. It directly borders the ocean to the west, and the fertile plains of the central Shou Peninsula to the east.

History

Teikyou has historically served as the capital of the Empire during various periods, most recently until the 798 coup led by Asumi Fujiwara, during which the city fell under the control of the Fujiwara Dynasty. Since the formation of the Anzai-Fujiwara Alliance, however, the capital has been officially recognized as Seito.
