Kilconna Rise

The Kilconna Rise dominates the southern end of the Isle of Llywelyn, a vast and imposing mountain range whose peaks and jagged cliffs loom over the surrounding landscape. The mountains are rugged and treacherous, with narrow passes and deep ravines that make traversing them difficult for all but the most experienced climbers. Mist often clings to the lower slopes, while the higher altitudes are whipped by icy winds that howl through the crags. Despite its beauty, the Kilconna Rise holds many dangers, both natural and supernatural, making it a place of legend and fear for the people of Llywelyn.   At the southern end of the mountain range lies Dhun Wahrum, a mighty dwarven citadel carved into the heart of the mountains. The dwarves of Dhun Wahrum are renowned craftsmen and warriors, and their fortress is said to be impregnable, with towering gates of iron and stone protecting its halls. Deep within the citadel, vast forges burn day and night, where the dwarves work metals drawn from the rich veins of the Kilconna Rise. Dhun Wahrum is not only a stronghold but also a center of trade, where the dwarves sell their finely crafted weapons, armor, and goods to the rest of the Moontide Isles. However, the dwarves are ever watchful, for they share the mountains with far more sinister beings.   The Kilconna Rise is also home to Fomorian giants, twisted and malevolent creatures that dwell in the dark caves and deep valleys hidden within the mountains. These giants, once beautiful and noble, were cursed into hideous forms by ancient magic, their bodies deformed and their minds filled with malice. The Fomorians are a constant threat to both the dwarves and those who live near the mountains, emerging from their lairs to raid settlements or clash with the dwarves of Dhun Wahrum. The legends speak of entire dwarven patrols being crushed under the weight of boulders thrown from the heights or disappearing into the labyrinthine tunnels the giants use as their homes. Few who encounter the Fomorians live to tell the tale, and their presence casts a long shadow over the otherwise majestic Kilconna Rise.
