Session 8: "Murder Most Foul / Along Came a Spider"

General Summary

The Ka-Tet ventured deeper into The Mausoleum, in search of the reported Necromancer named Strahan Runeshadow.   They located him and discovered him to be the source of much foul verbal vitriol. After said smack talk, he expressed a desire to secure The Nameless One's blood for some dark purpose. He immediately vanished, and left the group to battle a bunch of thugs, but soon he returned and filled the room with a poisonous cloud.   This placed the party on the back foot, but things gote worse when Eliana was killed in a volleyof a Blight spell. Thanks be to whatever powers had preserved Dionarra, as her blessing allowed TNO to return Eilana from death.   Theparty focused their fury on the Necromancer and brought his foulness down.   After the battle Arvid heard a dissonant tone filling the atmosphere of the room. Arvid recalled that he was once a musician and was able to determine that the dissonance was coming from a long object wrapped in cloth on a table. When he graspsed it, it awoke and grew into a rapier length blade called “Gar Ordeith”, its deadly blade edged with black flame.   Looting this room revealed a Magic staff (Gulthias staff), Bracers (of defense) +2, and a Scroll of Ice knife. There were also 2x blood charms, a small locked box armed with a poison trap. Arvid disabled the trap and opening it revealed 45pp, 345gp, and 295 sp). It also contained the Diary of Strahan Runeshadow.   The diary revealed that he wished for TNO's blood to attempt transforming into a Lich. He was indeed waiting for the party to come to him for this purpose.     The Ka-Tet returned to The Hive and informed Norochj that Strahan was defeated, and that the mausoleum was again at peace.     They next turned their attention to the howling and drooling Starved Dog’s barking. Illusory dog bones didn’t sate them, so the party resorted to good old physical discipline for these bad doggies.   Returning to Sev Tai to inform her that her sisters have been avenged, she told us that they were part of the ‘Chaosmen’ faction.     The party decided to next head towards The Gatehouse, as Esmae of the Flowers wanted to see Gregory.   On the way they saw a tall red man in a battered waistcoat started to chant the names of Demon Lords and Arch Devils, bounding off in a half crazy fashion. He exclaimed to have seen the ‘end of the world cometh’.   Following him around a corner revealed his body being carried away by a group of men, led by a ninja, with them escaping after the ninja man dropped a smoke bomb. Arvid thinks they were possibly Brothers of the Black Flame, an extremist monastic order.     The Ka-Tet returned to Gregory and during Esmae’s excited reunion with him she started to levitate just above the ground, appearing much like a Dabus. She rode on Gregory’s back filling the area with joy and delight. The children were most taken with this display.   Out of curiosity Dak’kon asked Gregory about the Black Flame and at once he became frightened. All joy left the area, as Gregory’s magic vanished.     The group decided to scout the bars to further their search for Eliath, and in a nameless tavern they were confronted by a group of cutters, demanding to know their purpose in Sigil. Their confronters mentioned there had been assassins killing barmies and bubbers in the Hive, and they threatened the party with death if they were found to be with aligned with such foes.   Their leader was a woman called Dari’och. When the party told her that they had just killed the Starved Dogs Barking, they softened in their attitude. She offered to help us Find Eliath in response for finding out who is killing the barmies. Most had been occurring in the hive and nearby the Gatehouse.     The Ka-Tet elected to separate to cover more ground.   Unfortunately, TNO was accosted in an alley by a pack of men, and taken to an isolated room filled with ‘Chaosmen’. They declared they have been framed by the anarchist Revolutionary League for the killings and that they have have not been involved. TNO was returned to the alleyway again with a hood over his head.   Arvid saw a group of Collectors preparing to take the body of a ‘not-yet’ dead drunk. He challenged them and several fled, but dtsained one who he persuaded to talk. He told of black shapes near the bubber’s body.     After regrouping we were wandering the streets when we heard a scream from an alleyway. Running to the scream we found a group of the Brothers of the Blackflame, again led by a black man, Shadowflame.   Despite looking like a ninja, he was in fact a powerful caster, striking our party twice with lightning bolts. He managed to escape us yet again, but we were left with the feeling that we would meet him again.     Session end
