Shanxi System
One of the systems currently undergoing incorporation into the Asmaran Federation. Its incorporation has been slow going, not the least of which is due to the majority population of True AI, the Caretakers.
The system is home to one terrestrial planet, its namesake. At its center is a standard blue star.
The incorporation of Shanxi into the federation has been contentious for several reasons.
On the one hand, the majority population of Shanxi are machines, which the Federation has avoided ruling citizenship for for as long as the organization has existed. The issue has sparked many debates among Federation politicians and lawmakers. To make matters worse, some believe Shanxi's large population would saturate the Federation's already bloated House of Representatives, adding 200 seats to the almost 400 existing seats.
On the other hand, Shanxi is rich with rare earth metals, necessary for modern postech electronics. Its population is known to be hardworking and skilled, a serious boon to the Federation's economy if brought into the fold. Shanxi is also perfect for human settlement, a veritable Eden world, in a region where many of the other known settlements exist in less than perfect ecosystems.
Due to this debate, the incorporation of Shanxi has taken nearly ten times as long as that of Kamchatka or Torres.
The system's standard lanes connect it to Torres and Jinxi.
