Vane River
The Vane River (Elvish: Afongwaed, "Blood River"), named after its Subetian name's meaning of "Vein River," is a fast-running river full of white water rapids, flowing rapidly through the Caradda Forest into Loch Chocor. It is fed by the snowmelt from the northwestern Nuppern Whitgalds. Panning for platinum ("white gold") is a common practice, although it is a dangerous practice due to the river's unpredictability, fickleness, and danger, hence its elvish name's translation of "Blood River".
Geography
Round boulders line and obtrude the river, causing many rapids and making water navigation impossible. Dense, wet woods surround the river, along with ferns which benefit from the mist the river generates.
Localized Phenomena
The river has been known to seemingly punish platinum-panners by increasing its water's force, attempting to sweep away and kill the panners.

Tourism
The river is said to contain gold, so human and dwarf gold-panners are attracted to the river, although the practice of gold-panning is dangerous and risky. It is also illegal according to elf-established law, although difficult to enforce due to the secluded nature of the Caradda Forest.
