The campaign takes place in the developing realm of Esmund during a time of peace and prosperity marked by the merging of magic and technology. Esmund, which was once the scene of constant strife due to dangers in the arid east, is now a thriving crossroads for commerce, tourism, and friendly competition among nations of like mind.   There have been widespread reports of severed ties to the eastern trade lands, with no clear explanation but plenty of speculation. There has been concerted effort underway to repair and re-arm the great structure that spans the narrow strait between Esmund and the east, the great border city of commutation. The sudden uptick in activity in the area presents a wealth of opportunities for those skilled in various trades, as well as those willing to take advantage of the market for mercenary contracts to man the fortifications.
