Blythe Mire
Blythe Mire is a sprawling, treacherous wetland located in the Kingdom of Monaghan on the Isle of Glanmoor. The mire is characterized by its vast stretches of boggy land, mist-shrouded pools, and winding marsh channels that make navigation through it extremely difficult. The ground is uneven and often soft, with hidden patches of quicksand and deep water that have claimed more than a few travelers who dared to enter unprepared.
Despite its dangers, Blythe Mire is a place of eerie beauty, with long grasses swaying in the wind, the distant calls of marsh birds, and the faint glow of will-o’-wisps that can sometimes be seen hovering just above the water. These lights are rumored to be fey spirits or ancient souls trapped in the mire, luring the unwary deeper into its grasp. The atmosphere is thick with moisture, and the smell of damp earth, decay, and blooming water lilies permeates the air.
To the east of Blythe Mire is the port town of Riverhide, whose residents have learned to respect the mire for both its resources and its mysteries. The mire is rich with flora, including large patches of cranberry and blueberry However, gathering these resources is perilous.
Blythe Mire is home to a variety of wildlife, including large amphibians, reptiles, and marsh-dwelling predators. The locals tell stories of massive, ancient creatures lurking in the deeper parts of the swamp, though few have ever seen them and lived to tell the tale. The mire also harbors numerous fey creatures, and it is said that portals to The Feywild may exist within the more remote sections of the swamp, further adding to its dangerousness.
Despite its haunting and foreboding nature, Blythe Mire plays an important role in the spiritual life of the surrounding communities. Druids and fey-worshipping cults sometimes make pilgrimages into the mire to hold secretive rituals to bless their endeavors. It is believed that the mire holds ancient, untapped magic, a remnant of the time when the Feywild's influence was stronger across the land.
