Rochetown
Rochetown, a bustling Daoine port city in the Kingdom of Eastwill, is situated along the coast of Whitefoam Bay, nestled just east of the towering Farheight Range mountains and north of the capital, Caer Ceredig. The city’s location, with the majestic mountains rising to the west and the calm waters of Whitefoam Bay to the east, makes it an important hub for trade, travel, and commerce within the kingdom.
Rochetown’s port is always alive with activity, with ships arriving from distant lands and local fishermen casting their nets into the rich waters of Whitefoam Bay. The bay gets its name from the white-capped waves that crash against the rocky shores, creating a striking contrast against the deep blue sea. The docks are lined with warehouses, merchant stalls, and shipyards, where traders and sailors conduct their business.
The city itself is named for the rocky outcroppings that dot the landscape, with much of its architecture reflecting the rugged nature of its surroundings. Stone buildings, sturdy and practical, make up the majority of Rochetown, designed to withstand the harsh coastal weather that can sweep in from the bay. Many of the structures feature slanted roofs and reinforced walls, a testament to the resilience of the Daoine people who live here.
Rochetown benefits from its proximity to both the mountains and the sea, making it a strategic location for both maritime and overland trade. The city is known for its export of high-quality stone and metalwork, mined from the Farheight Range, as well as the fine seafood and ocean goods that are harvested from the bay. The mountains to the west also provide protection from inland threats, making the city a natural stronghold along the coast.
Despite its practical appearance, Rochetown has its moments of beauty, especially during festivals. The people of Rochetown honor the Old Gods, particularly Ran, The Deep Queen, with offerings made at shrines along the bay. Sailors and fishermen alike seek her favor before setting out on their journeys, believing that her blessing will bring them safe passage and plentiful catches. The city also holds reverence for Ctenmillar, The Forge, as the city’s blacksmiths and artisans turn the resources of the Farheight Range into finely wrought tools, weapons, and art.
Rochetown's importance as a port city means it has strong ties to Caer Ceredig to the south, often serving as a gateway for goods and travelers heading to the capital. The city has a practical, hardworking atmosphere, where its people are shaped by the rugged environment but remain connected to the sea and mountains that sustain them. With its unique location, Rochetown stands as a key player in the economy and defense of the Kingdom of Eastwill.
