Riverhide
Riverhide is a quaint and bustling port town nestled along a sheltered bay in the Kingdom of Wicklow on the Isle of Glanmoor. The town thrives on its position as a key trade point with calm waters in the bay offering a safe haven for ships and fishermen alike. Its name, Riverhide, comes from the river that flows from the mountains to the north, which seems to hide within the landscape before reaching the bay.
To the east lies the mystical Stagford Wood, casting an aura of enchantment over the town. The locals in Riverhide will trade with the elves of A'vamel, who dwell deep within the wood. Many of Riverhide's residents honor Aine, The Elvendawn, leaving small offerings near the river in hopes of gaining favor with the fey creatures that might visit from the forest.
To the west, Blythe Mire, a vast, swampy region, stretches out in contrast to the lush beauty of Stagford Wood. The mire is filled with marshy wetlands, and though the area is treacherous to traverse, it holds valuable resources such as medicinal herbs sought after by local apothecaries and traders.
Riverhide’s port is the lifeblood of the town, with docks bustling with activity as traders bring in goods from nearby towns and distant lands. The local economy thrives on fishing and trade, with merchants and sailors paying their respects to Ran, The Deep Queen, before setting out on long voyages or casting their nets into the bay. Small shrines to Ran are often found near the waterfront, decorated with seashells, coins, and other offerings to ensure calm seas and bountiful catches.
The town itself is fair in size, with cobblestone streets and timber-framed homes. Its buildings reflect the rugged practicality of the people who live there, though the influence of elven artistry can be seen in the occasional carved designs that adorn the town’s meeting halls and marketplaces.
Riverhide’s position between Stagford Wood and Blythe Mire has shaped its people into hardy, resourceful folk who respect the power of nature and the Old Gods. The town maintains a close connection to the natural world around it, with a strong sense of reverence for the magic that infuses the land.
