Humans
The
Native Sons are a militant terrorist group and self-proclaimed “resistance” to
Bastion's government, the
Sol Council, and
Terran Defense Corps military. They blame the demise of Earth on them and are trying to put an end to
Dominion who they see as a brutal and fascist regime. They sympathize with Mars'
Red Star as they were founded by Martian missionaries before the war began.
Innocent civilians of
New Terra and the
Tyrian Union must also contending with the criminal
Brotherhood, the callous
Brokers, and the fanatical members of
Reclamation.
Machines
Outside of Bastion and scattered around the Earth are various models of autonomous robots called
Hunters. Created by the
GenTech corporation in the 22nd century as war machines, they turned on humanity who were forced to
bomb the planet in an attempt to stop them. The machines survived and utilize
self-replication facilities to increase their numbers. Until recently, they were thought to be destroyed, but a Hunter attacked Bastion 30 years ago and the rest are preparing for an invasion.
Aliens
Spatial rifts have been mysteriously opening across the system, allowing hostile alien beings access to our worlds. These wormholes bring several types of creatures including
The Carnax: the largest threat in NEXUS. A humanoid-reptilian species, they are ancient spacefarers who have been searching the galaxy for a millenia for immensely powerful artifacts. They are conquerors and ravagers, destroying anything in their path. Their numbers are few, but they are exceedingly powerful. Their commanders are like pharaohs, commanding an army of lower status slaves. They utilize constructs called
The Ruin as well as sentient ferrofluid called
Quicksilver to fight on their behalf and as tools in their quest for galactic domination and the search for
The Eternal Relics.
Humanity must also content with the legion of
The Shatter, a synthetic crystalline species analogous to sentient nanotech. These creatures now control a large portion of
Mars, have terraformed its moon
Phobos with their own structures, and have been sending scouting and infiltration legions to human controlled
locationsaround the system. They also are attempting to establish colonies and invade Earth.
There are additional types of alien species as well that humans can ally with or fight against. Many are limited in number as they are more or less refugees from various locations throughout the galaxy.
