Phandalin
The rutted track emerges from a wooded hillside, and you catch your first glimpse of Phandalin. You see children playing on the town green and the townsfolk tending to chores or running errands at shops. Many people look up as you approach, but all return to their business as you go byThe frontier town of New Phandalin, or just Phandalin, is built on the ruins of a much older human settlement that was beset by an orc horde hundreds of years ago. In the last three or four years, settlers from the cities of Neverwinter and Waterdeep have begun reclaiming the ruins of Phandelin. This fledgeling settlement is now home to farmers, woodcutters, fur traders and prospectors drawn by tales of gold and platinum in the foothills of the sword mountains. Unfortunately, more than a few bandits and brigands have settled here as well, taking advantage of the area's lack of a local lord or authority figure. Reports of white dragon sightings is causing concern amongst the townsfolk, who fear the creature may destroy all that they've worked to rebuild, notably, the townmaster, Harbin Wester, has locked himself away inside his home, refusing to leave. Phandalin sits nestled within the rocky foothills of the Sword Mountains and consists of forty or fifty simple log buildings. Crumbling stone ruins surround newer houses and shops, showing that this must have been a much larger settlement once.
Demographics
A mostly human town, Phandalin is also home to a moderate number of dwarves, elves, and halflings, the townsfolk are generally accepting of outsiders. Other, less common races do live in Phandalin, like the kenku named Coins.
Phandalin is a relatively new settlement, most who live there have jobs and earn enough to own their own home but the residents tend not to be incredibly wealthy, except for a few individuals such as Halia Thornton and Townmaster Harbin Wester.
Sildar Halwinter of the Lord's Alliance is not a citizen of Phandalin, however, he has taken up temporary residence there and hopes to become townmaster.
Government
The town is run by a Townmaster, the current townmaster is Harbin Wester. An election is held once a year, only residents can vote in these elections and there is no limit to how long a townmaster can stay in power.
