Losgate College of Mages
The College of Mages's local branch in the city of Losgate is located at the end of the Great Canal. It appears to be a simple wooden tower, maybe four stories tall. A few windows allow light to enter the interior, but they have their shutters closed at this time of the day. A simple-looking door appears to be the only entrance to the structure.
Inside, the rooms appear to be very lavish, especially by the standard of the North. Bookshelves cover most of the walls, with only the occasional window or desk breaking up the otherwise monotonous wall decor. A variety of desks and chairs are also arranged in the centre of the main entrance hall, with a couple of students and scholars busily writing away on their projects.
Purpose / Function
The College of Mages has a branch in all major cities of the Gratic Empire, and the one in Losgate is no exception. Here, the College maintains its major centres of knowledge about natural magic; the magic used by the various peoples of the North and the Frost Dwarves who inhabit this region. Dwarves make up the majority of the members here, and they are also the most likely to be emissaries sent out from this branch.
A large number of students also learn here, being instructed on the arcane arts through a system of instructors with a variety of backgrounds and specialities. About two dozen students learn here during the course of a year, which makes it an important educational institution, although not as large as other branches of the College.
Architecture
The building appears to be constructed from wood, which might alarm those who worry for the building burning down. However, the wooden façade is an aesthetic more than a reality; the exterior has enchantments placed upon it to prevent fire damage or rotting the wood underneath. The door also carries an illusion to make it appear simple, having an intricate system of locks and arcane traps to those who try and break in. The exterior windows cannot be entered from the outside, and anyone attempting to do so will only meet a solid wall.
History
Not long after the separation of the College of Mages from the Imperial Army , they immediately began to found educational institutions. The one in Losgate was the first. While they are definitely not the biggest academy of its kind, it is still very fundamental to the transition of the College from a military organization to a secular one.
