Ardek Oredelver

Ardek Oredelver

Ardek Ordelver Velgrund is a dwarven barbarian, novelist, and member of Clan Velgrund. He's the younger brother of Mogran Oredelver, one of the Heroes of Saltmarsh and an honored hero of their clan, and was a member of the informal B-Team during the Banesmark Crisis.

History

Early Life

Ardek was born in Nettlemurk Hall in 1395 alongside his twin brother Gulbrek to Burgmüller and Gyleth Oredelver. The two had a happy and loving childhood and were nearly always joined at the hip. When the two came of age, they each sought out their role in the clan, Gulbrek choosing to become a tailor and Ardek choosing to become a blacksmith.   In 1435, Nettlemurk Hall was conquered by orcs from the Kingdom of Many-Arrows, leading to the death and slaughter of almost every Velgrund inside. Of the 3000 Velgrunds inhabitating Nettlemurk Hall before its conquest, only 200 managed to escape. Of the Oredelvers, only Ardek and his older brother Mogran survived.   For the next several decades, the Velgrunds wandered in exile before settling in the Burrows of Neverwinter. Mogran took on the role of Ardek's guardian and the of them became extremely close and proctective of one another. Ardek was troubled after the slaughter, however, often flying into rages or loosing control of his emotions. Worse, the spirits of the departed Oredelvers sometimes seemed to appear around him during his fits, further taunting him, though Mogran eventaully taught Ardek to control his outbursts.   Following the beginnning of Dagult Neverember's New Neverwinter project, Ardek, like many Velgrunds, joined Manistrad Copperlocks' construction company, Mountain Gem, where he began working as an acountant. In 1493, when Mountain Gem transitioned into being a mining company and many of the workers moved to Saltmarsh to operate its newly opened mine, Ardek remained in Neverwinter to help run the office there.

The Banesmark Crisis

In 1496, Ardek's brother Mogran became invovled in the Banesmark Crisis as one of the Heroes of Saltmarsh. After Ardek heard about the Battle of the Spire, in which is brother participated, and Mogran's firing from Mountain Gem after fumbling negotiations with an efreeta Tajir, Ardek put in a transfer to Saltmarsh to be there for his older brother.   While there, Ardek befriended Seraphina Pierce, the younger sister of Mogran's companion Micah Pierce, Immortal Valentine, and Raven Bloodash, a group that recently arrived in Saltmarsh themselves as often met for drinks at the Snapping Lure. The four fast friends soon named themselves the B-Team, or Beer Team, as a reference to their nightly hang outs.   After the Heroes of Saltmarsh returned from Firewatch Island at the start of Uktar 1496, they brough the B-Team entirely up to speed on the nature of Banesmarks, the danger posed by the aboleth S'gothgah, and the aboleth's threat to destroy the town if the Heroes made obvious moves against it. However, the Mogran determined that the God Trap, a powerful soul trap stolen from their clan before their home was conquered, may play a key role in ending the crisis. Mogran, Lyra, Micah, and Valentine then snuck out of town to retrieve the item from the black dragon Voaraghammanthar, while Necian Arrzen remained in town and used magic to make Ardek look like Mog, Seraphina look like Micah, and Raven look like Lyra to hide their absence.   Additionally, while the others had left, the group remaining in town worked together to identify every Marsher that had a Banesmark, but in doing so accidentally released the trapped vampire Xolec. When the God Trap retrieval team returned to Saltmarsh, the combined groups worked together to kill Xolec for good. Ardek then choose to remain in town to protect it while Mogran and the other Heroes left for their final confrontation with S'gothgah.

Life After the Banesmark Crisis

Following the Banesmark Crisis, Ardek and Mogran moved home to Neverwinter, where Ardek continued his accounting work, though he began writing more on the side, including a few stories loosely based on the Heroes of Saltmarsh.   Ardek got married to another dwarf of Clan Velgrun in the early 1500's. His first son was a boy that he named Gulbrek, in honor of his lost twin.   In 1547, Clan Velgrund and its allies, after centuries of planning, marched to war to reconquer their ancesteral home. Ardek was among the forces that participated in the Liberation of Nettlemurk Hall, and following the Velgrund victory, Ardek and his family moved to Nettlemurk Hall permenately, settling in the old Oredelver home.
