Baldr the Brave

Prince Baldr Gulveigson, the Brave

Balder the Brave is the grandson of Frey and son of Gullveig.

He spent part of his childhood in the court of Odin, learning statecraft and helping to cement the ties between the Aesir and Vanir, which remained fraught even after Odin's marriage to Baldr's aunt Frigga. He became close friends with his counsin Thor, although Loki resented his charisma and popularity.

Baldr served in the Asgardian army during a conflict with the Storm Giants. During the battle, he deserted in order to save a baby bird, which had fallen from its nest onto the battlefield, and was at risk of being crushed. In the aftermarth of the battle, Odin publically accused Baldr of cowardice for his desertion. He ordered his nephew Tyr to throw his spear at Baldr. Odin stopped the spear before it actually hit the boy, but was satisfied that he had not flinched and was no coward. Thereafter, he was known as Baldr the Brave.

Since the creation of the Congress of Realms, he has served as one of the Members of Congress for Vanaheim.
