Sarus (Sare-e-us)

Sarus is a large island that is home to the ancient Tribe of Seria, which dates back to pre Roscrean Empire era. Settled long ago after their banishment from Roscrean lands, they claimed as their new home, being just off the coast of Roscrea. From this gloomy and gray island, the Serians plan and plot their mysterious schemes against Wold under the cover of darkness.

Geography

Seria is known for being gloomy and dark, with horrible weather and constant thunderstorms within the island, leading to many forest fires, and dead trees sprawled across the land. A thick layer of fog covers the landscape as well, leading to poor vision and distance of sight. Great mountain regions also exist within the island, such as those that surround the great capital city of Amol, and the mountains that lie to the south, which provide a natural barrier to the southern portion of Sarus to the Northern portion.
Lake Gesalec also lies within the middle of the island, offering the largest fresh water source on the islands for its inhabitants. A great forest lies to the North of Lake Gesalec as well, covering the sides of the Amolian Mountains. Many have lost their way within these woods, and few have returned. Large spiders, undead, and other creatures lie within the depths of these cursed woods. to the north of the woods, lies great country side filled with hills and smaller mountains, which many vampire lords take advantage of, and create their own communities, such was with the city of Gaut.

Ecosystem

Only seen from a distance with great clouds overhead, there is a constant storm within Sarus almost permanently. Never seeing the warmth of sunlight, the plants, flowers, and trees of Sarus must fight for every bit of light they can receive, which leads to trees and plants twisting and toppling over each other for the sake of their survival, their roots practically choking the other plant or tree fighting against them for light. The roots have adapted as well, making them poisonous coating on the exterior, as well as thorns in abundance on not only the roots, but almost everywhere within the plant or tree. Most plants have shriveled and made themselves small in order to avoid this slow yet painful combat for them..   Hurricanes are also common on Sarus, leading to entire tracks of land to be pulled from the ground and sprouted upright, causing for drastic land formations to occur, such as jagged rocks. The Serians take use of this and use these jagged rocks to establish bases for them as they can overlook the land and have strategical defending positions against any attackers. Cities and communities of a vampire lord naturally cascade down from the main structure atop of the jagged rock to the ground below.

Localized Phenomena

The Sickening Mist

The sickening mist is a phenomena that occurs within Sarus, where a mist of deadly gases can appear at any part of the island, where any living organism that is within this mist would slowly perish, and their flesh would bubble and contort underneath the unbearable heat of the mist, causing them to be unrecognizable to how they had looked before. Entire chunks of flesh may rot from the skeleton of the organism, leading to their bare bone to be exposed. Even stranger, this organism may continue living in a lifeless state, as they travel with the mist, carrying it with them, before they somehow dissapear again with the mist, only to return with it at an unknown time and location. Any that are trapped within the Sickening Mist lose all thought or memory, and only respond in groans of agony, as they experience unimaginable torment from the mist. Fauna also is affected by the mist as well, with any plant touching the mist, leading to it to become dead within seconds, and develop a black, tar like substance that is extremely poisonous on its outside exterior.

History

Once, Sarus was a peaceful island, home to a native population that had came during the Great Migration from the Old Land. Here, they had made their lives comfortable and called Sarus their home. At this time, the island was called Noncore, which meant 'Home" In their native speech. All what at peace, until the banishment of the tribe of Seria from Roscrean land, which caused the Serian people to migrate to Noncore. They came in great and overwhelming technological prowess compared to that of the natives, and Sarus was not peaceful to them.    Seria quickly rolled through the island, conquering every piece of land, and murdering the local population of natives on the island. They burned down entire villages and communities, and sparing no one. Eventually the entire population of the natives were thought to be extinct, and Seria had complete control over the island. They renamed it to Sarus, and began to build their own society on the island. Over time, because of their use of dark magic, the land became corrupted, and gloomy. Storms became frequent, and the once thriving land became rocky and depressing.    Now Sarus resides in constant storms and mist, as the island sits in depression, as the gloomy island is almost impossible to travel to because of the constant storms that ravage around the island, making it impossible for outside invaders to come and liberate the island- that is- if they knew of what lied across from the mysterious storms on Roscrea's coastline.
